While carrying out another assignment, mercenary Al Simmons is betrayed by his client, dies a terrible death, and goes straight to hell. The ruler of hell offers Al the chance to lead his army in exchange for one last chance to see his wife. Al agrees and returns to earth, where preparations for the battle between good and evil are in full swing.
