Three years have passed since the first “Kick-ass” was released, and according to the storyline within the franchise (probably not a dildo after all, because there’s a third volume of the comic book), it’s been about four years. Mindy has grown from 11 to 15 years old, and Dave… for some reason, is still in high school with his slacker friends. Both Dave and Mindy still dress up as superheroes and clean up the city, inspiring people to be superheroes.

The change in director is not particularly felt, and according to the cast, Matthew Vaughn, who remains a producer, oversaw all the filming on set and actually co-directed the sequel. And official director Jeff Wadlow, who now has to write and direct “X-Force,” the next installment in the history of the X-Men franchise, handled the second “Kick-ass” brilliantly, and together with Vaughn they managed to surpass the first installment.

Despite the fact that the second volume of the comics was disgusting, it was surprisingly adapted to the movie in some brilliant way. And it’s not even the fact that in parallel to the story they included an amazing spin-off about Heath-Girl (Killer Girl), thanks to which the concept of the second movie became a fascinating “zebra” of alternating personal stories of Dave and Mindy, but directly in changing the comic story, introducing new characters, re-designing costumes and removing a number of the most nightmarish scenes. With this insertion, however, we were deprived of a solo Hit-Girl movie.

However, the “mainstreamization” of the comic book for a wider audience of the film played a cruel joke in some places, so the scene of rescue of Asian women was deprived of nudity, the character of Kathy – Lindsay Fonseca appears only in a cameo, and the death of one of the leading characters lost all its drama and horror, being off-screen. Nevertheless, the level of violence remained the same, and a new one was invented for the nude scene – a swimming pool with two topless girls.

Visual style of “Kick-Ass” remained unchanged: the voice-over of the main character, comic inscriptions-rectangles (now also in foreign dialogues), the film adheres to the realistic interpretation (even on jetpacks no longer fly), Chloe Moretz grew up, but became even more cool and sexy, well, and comic violence is still spectacular and nerve-wracking! References to the comics and their characters have not gone anywhere either, from dialogs to posters and hints with allegories. However, the first part about “kryptonite” and “Robin” was more epic. The humor is great again, the jokes are really memorable, but many will be killed by the dubbing.

Memorable vivid scenes are aplenty. Crushing cops with lawn mowers Rus-Matushka performed by Olga Kurkulina (under the punk version of “Korobeynikov”), Hit-Girl’s showdown with gopniki and riding on a purple motorcycle (hit-bike?), storming a den of Asian slave traders, the final epic fight, again Khloechka but without a costume on the roof of the car and much more. The action turned out to be roof-raising and diverse, with cheerful melodies.

The villain, former Red Mist, current Mazafacker, updated his closet and hired a number of thugs in the gang of “Super mega cunts”: fat Tony became obese villain nicknamed Opuchol, appeared “stereotypical-archetypal” Asian Genghis-Reznya (Genghis-Karnazh), Russian criminal cannibal Rus-Matushka and non-politically correct Negro Black Death. Well, the main character joins the Justice Forever squad, which includes Colonel Star-Spangled Banner, played by an unrecognizable Jim Carrey, and his sheepdog, Dr. Gravity, Night Bitch, married couple Remember Tommy, gay Insect Man and Battle Boy, played by one of Dave’s friends (and the last of the trio will also wear a costume, but will go to the villains). The film also features a brilliant cameo by Ian Glenn (Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones).

Basically, there would be a lot to say about the members of both teams in the movie. Add material and stories, but the sequel is fast-paced and energetic, not really stopping on minor characters and this time not going into flashbacks, which is basically in vain (promised after the first movie Vaughn 20 minutes of Cage and Moretz and disappeared into oblivion, it seems). Even the calm before the massacre, which was in the trailers for the movie, was removed, there was almost a continuous drive uncompromising and murderous.

The question of “to be or not to be” now falls on Mindy Macready’s shoulders. Chloe Moretz gives a marvelous performance, trying to become a “regular girl” in school at the insistence of a guardian cop – a friend of her father, but thanks to her talents her popularity is off the charts and brings out the local glamorous bitches, whose rating drops sharply because of Mindy’s popularity, a war between the girls begins. This kind of extra plot builds perfectly into the movie, becoming the second main one, and the story jumps gracefully from hero to heroine. The editing of this alternation also came out quite well, and even when it seems like a scene was cut off at an inopportune time, it’s beautifully continued after a while.

In the end, Vaughn and Wadlow do the unbelievable: they gather a bunch of dressed-up superheroes and supervillains for the final epic battle. But bitch-fight duel of Rus-Matushka and Hit-Girl was still more spectacular than the main battle of the two armies (where they promised a cameo of Millar and Romita Jr.). A number of cool visual gimmicks and Chloe Moretz saying ‘You failed…’ in Russian make this episode the most awesome of the entire movie!

The second part came out killer than the first, and though inferior in some details, superior in many other ways. They complement each other perfectly (like “Red” and “Red 2” – in the same style, but with differences between them), looking like a balanced and solid dileogy, with an expected sequel-triquel. In general, “Kick-ass 2” is an improved version of the first movie: more characters, more action, more Chloe Moretz on the timeline, now the R rating is supported not only by gorgeous scenes of violence, but also eroticism, well, and according to the tradition of comic book movies – this time the movie has a scene after the credits!

A real movie delight! It’s light, funny, uncensored and family-oriented, very cool and entertaining. Yes, the first part had a bit more stars (Cage, Strong and Flemming vs. one Carrie here) and more recognizable music, but inferior to that, the second part is superior to the first one in many other ways, so the sequel is really cooler than the original. And together they look like an amazing and masterpiece superhero franchise!

“Promising Young Woman” is the feature-length directorial debut of Emiralda Fennel, producer of “Killing Eve,” the 2020 series that became the leading feminist commentary in American cinema. Structurally, Fennel’s script is a story of female revenge in a world of horny men, which may immediately raise some skepticism among viewers who are tired of watching year after year of the same-old feminist manifestos about how bad men are and how miserable they make women. Emerald Fennell’s movie is only partially under this, mostly being a story about the struggle against human selfishness, which affects both the stronger and weaker sex equally.

The plot revolves around a thirty-year-old girl named Cassandra (a charming Carey Mulligan), a former medical student who dropped out and went to work in a cheap café. Cassandra spends all her free time on night outings to clubs, where she catches men, figuratively speaking, by their dignity. The girl pretends to be drunk, unable to stand on her own feet, which attracts the attention of some “good” guy who is ready to selflessly help the lady in distress, offering her help. And, obviously, instead of helping, the men take the girl to their house time after time, hoping to have easy sex with the poorly thinking Cassandra. But that’s not the case!

Cassandra is a character in complete control. She only pretends to be drunk, at the very last moment pulling the silly girl mask off her face, thus shocking and putting the horny men in their place. And since accusations of sexual assault in modern America are one of men’s biggest fears today, Cassandra’s games always end in success for her. And to deny the fact that there are men hungry for women’s bodies in clubs, bars and other such places is silly – it is, has been and will be. The main stupidity of the movie is that because of its feminist foundation, Fennell’s picture makes all men negative characters who think only about what is hanging between their legs.

This male behavior in Fennell’s film is due to the idea of the film, in which all the characters think only of themselves, without thinking about what the people around them might be feeling or experiencing. Cassandra goes through the entire timeline of human selfishness, being the only character in the film who thinks not only about herself, but also about others. Why does she do this? The director, on the one hand, keeps the motivation of the heroine in secret until the middle of the tape, and on the other – immediately throws all the cards on the table, thus killing all the intrigue. Cassandra is a talented doctor who could have built a wonderful career in medicine, but one fateful night changed her life once and for all.

Attractive and fragile in appearance, but determined inside, Carey Mulligan plays a girl with a tragic fate, whose best friend was gang-raped as a student. And, of course, no one cared about the incident. This is the most important detail of the plot: it was not the main character who was raped, but her friend. The university turned a blind eye to this, so as not to spoil the image of the educational institution, the men simply began to mock the victim, and the other girls wrote everything off to alcohol intoxication. “It’s her own fault, it was not necessary to drink so much that evening” – say the heroes of the tape. But only if the director condemns men for their selfish and despicable antics, the women are on the contrary exposed as victims of the situation. All women in the movie – intimidated and weak.

The only exception is Cassandra, who acts as a kind of messiah. No kidding, the first shot with Carey Mulligan’s character is an allusion to Christ dying for the sins of mankind. It would seem like a small passphrase for those who like to see what is not there. However, throughout the movie, Cassandra acts like the savior of mankind. In one of the scenes the protagonist forgives a fallen man who repented and fell on his knees before Cassandra. We could give a couple more examples, but we can’t do without spoilers here, so not this time. The ability to empathize with others, to think of others and to forgive is a foundation in the character of the protagonist.

And in general, everything that concerns visual storytelling and images – Fennel succeeded best of all. “Promising Young Woman” boasts remarkable camera work, composition and frame geometry. The director together with the cameraman with a small budget achieved a glossy picture, reflecting the visual beauty of the inner ugliness of the world in which the protagonist exists. A competent choice of color palette made some shots of the film memorable and very three-dimensional, thanks to which “The Girl” wants to look at again and again. Often color in Fennel’s film says literally everything that the viewer needs to know about the episodic characters: it is enough that the viewer sees around the hero to understand who he is, what he is experiencing and where the script is leading him.

On the whole, Promising Young Woman is one of the most successful feminist pop films of recent years, though not a star-studded movie, but one that doesn’t get out of your head over time thanks to a number of good directorial decisions. Emerald Fennell’s film could have turned out a head higher if the script had a little more common sense and a sober look at the problems associated with relationships between men and women. It is only necessary to remove from this tape all the feminism and get an original and very successful story about the fight against selfishness, told through the prism of a vengeful character. But what can’t be taken away from the movie is the right message, which can help someone to think about the people around him day after day. And it doesn’t matter where exactly: on the street, at work or in a club. It hurts everyone.

For a variety of reasons, whether by stupidity or by chance, you do not notice a project worthy of attention. Until that very chance deigns to turn you around and face the project. Once the trailer for Paranorman, which is by no means the best trailer, is forcibly presented to you, sitting in a movie theater seat, you instantly realize that there is something to this picture. A twist capable of predicting something more. And then there’s the juxtaposition of uncomplicated data, and you realize that this is LAIKA – the writers of the wonderful “Coraline,” which miraculously didn’t take the animated Oscar in 2010.

“Paranorman” is a small story with a big performance, in which a not-so-successful but gifted child becomes an important figure in the fortunes of the people of a small town. But this is not a cartoon about salvation or bravery against the backdrop of some ancient evil that has decided to awaken. In each frame, the face of the main character is a seasoned, collected image of the many experiences. By creating a cartoon using such exacting technology as stop-motion, you are, as an artist, literally creating these emotions with your hands. The effect is heightened as the close cooperation between the originality of the script and the imagination of the directors, which turns into an exquisite result in the form of extraordinarily vivid, distinctive characters, each with an individual in them.

The deliberate modesty of the narrative is compensated for by a strong concentration on its details. The cartoon sees no problem for itself in taking a broader approach to character storytelling, as long as each such narrative is able to favor the viewer’s perception. There is too much clean, varied humor, which keeps the numerous, largely original episodes from failing, even though they are loosely connected to each other by plot. A first-rate comedy is produced through a mature, somewhat quirky and often ironic approach to the subject of the afterlife, and death itself.

The fundamental animation solution speaks for the weak activity of the picture, as motion becomes inherent only in directly animate objects and effects, while everything else is a living set piece. Of great interest is the observation of the subtle reconnection of real sets and computer graphics. The cartoon sometimes forgets about the family audience and turns itself inside out in order to realize the scenes of dark, frightening atmosphere that often pop up in the story.

Skillfully setting the bar high for color play and continuing to effectively exploit the theme of loneliness, the cartoon cautiously and unexpectedly takes on the picture of society. While anyone under the age of 13 will be shaking in a viewer’s chair with fear and misunderstanding of what is going on, the adult viewer will be sitting and drooling with pleasure watching a cartoon that speaks to them in such proper, necessary language. There is metaphoricality, there is maturity of vision, especially when far from the climactic moment the zombies realize that it is not the people around them who should fear them, but the zombies who should fear the people around them.

The filmmakers’ grandiose instincts kick in every time they realize that they are slipping into a simple, good, shot-down cartoon, and instantly something albeit small but brilliant comes from their hands, something we have at least never seen in animation before. There are too many facial expressions, too much emotion, and too much sincerity, which, coupled with the freshness of any unfolding ideas, make this picture blossom in every way. Any sense of approaching standard is shattered by sudden techniques, whether it be dramatic changes of mood, character animation, fairy-tale techniques of sound editing, and more. In places, John Bryon’s outright masterpiece soundtrack manages something indescribable in the ending: it wrestles with Clint Mansell and his “Fountain”.

The cartoon “How to tame a dragon?, In my opinion, is one of the most successful new products of 2010. It is completely obscured by the plot, original drawings, funny heroes, a completely sound moral and ethical basis and, like nowhere, successful application of 3D technologies.

Few of the latest cartoons can compete with this in the prettiness of pictures, the dynamism of drawings and as an embodiment of the idea as a whole. The only flaw that you can find fault with and for which you can blame the creators of “How to tame a dragon?” Is that it is too much like adults. Indeed, the cartoon turned out to be quite suitable for an adult audience, but at the same time, it can hardly be called “not childish.”

Children always want to be more mature than they really are, and therefore they will watch the cartoon with their parents with great pleasure, just as parents will enjoy watching the cartoon and will not say that it is stupid or uninteresting.

For originality, originality, beauty and quality, as well as for full compliance of the title with the plot, which is rare now, I would like to appreciate the cartoon by the highest category:

As a rule, the sequel is always inferior to the more successful original in the novelty of ideas, scenario twists and turns, and in many other ways. But the second part of this franchise was wrong. This is one of the few examples in the cinema of the XXI century, when the continuation is almost better than the first picture. An even more rare case is the presence of successful serial development of events of a larger-screen series of films. In this franchise, the series and short-length television films not only skillfully complement the history, but also fit well into a special chronological framework, while not touching the plots of the main series, with the exception of only some of their consequences. But, as they say, if the sequel and all its tinsel succeed, then triquel certainly seems weak. So it was in the case of the “Jurassic Park III, “Alien 3 and a huge number of franchises starting for health. Surprisingly, “How to tame the dragon 3” came out definitely no worse than its predecessors, so emotionally and touchingly completing the eight-year trilogy. I can safely say that “The Hidden World is one of the best Dreamworks cartoons, which trikvelov always had problems, which makes this picture even more remarkable in the entire line of films of the animation studio. But first things first!

In the story, a year has passed since the events of the previous film. Hiccup and his team of riders continue to save dragons from hunters, which were too much divorced in the vicinity of the island of Olukh. The very same Viking settlement is teeming with crowds of dragons, which already simply do not have enough space. All live, as they say, in cramps and not mad. But everything changes after one legendary hunter finds out about the existence of the last Male Night Fury (Toothless) and decides to kill him. In principle, a similar outlook was in the second part, only the ideas of Drago Bluedvist, a madman with the goal of subjugating all dragons with the help of a leader, differ from those of Grimmel, a maniac with a thirst for extermination of dragons “for the good of peace among the people.” And let’s immediately mark the only problem of the film! Despite the quite catchy charisma, the main villain is not remembered by the word at all. Do not think that I did not understand the scriptwriters’ intention to highlight Bezubik’s relationship with Icking and Day Fury. I understand that the villain is needed here only as a reason for the characters to act, but this is also wrong. Antagonist should not be a third party in the work! As for me, apart from the frankly weak scoundrel, the new part of the adventure of Icking and his dragon does not have any serious disadvantages. There are, of course, smaller defects, but they are completely covered by the positive aspects of the picture.

From the point of view of the script, trikvel pleases us with its unexpected twists, which the advertising campaign has not yet managed to spoil. Of course, clich? moments are naturally present, but one can hardly imagine modern cinema without copying ideas and patterned situations. However, all this is not evident. But what is striking is the absolutely unforgettable visual component. While everyone is discussing the level of graphics in the teaser of the Cold Heart sequel, you risk missing the visual masterpiece that has already been released. Everything is beautiful in the film: from the reflection in the pupils of dragons to realistic fire, from flying over the Hidden World to the beauty of Olukh and its environs. Good tape looks and action scenes. It is worth saying that there is nothing super-scale here, as in the final of the second part. On the contrary, all the battles here are shown in close-up with a sharpening of the spectator’s attention on the movements of individual characters. “How to tame the dragon 3” not only looks cool, but it sounds good. The soundtrack is still beautiful, and the main theme is unlikely to get out of your head soon.

What about humor? He still rests on two basic tenets – affection for tomfoolery and dragon habits and interactive humor. Although there was a place for irony and many other varieties. Jokes here do not roll down to the level of Illumination cartoons and that is good.

But most of the positive viewing experience rests on an incredibly touching finale that will knock a tear from the franchise fans of a bygone era. For 8 years of serial and full-length adventures, we managed to love the characters, their environment and, of course, dragons. At the same time, the final shows us only the end of the story of Icking and Toothless, and not the entire franchise. So it is possible that the series will have different plot branches, but it will not be the same.

Separate praise are credits in which we are shown the key moments of the entire franchise. Thank you, Dreamworks!

Summing up, “How to tame a dragon 3: The Hidden World is almost an ideal cinema for all ages, but the most important thing is that this is the final of one of the best animated films in cinema history. It was brilliant!

Five years after the events of the first film. The heroes have matured and now they face the task of preserving peace on the island of Alukh. The evil enemy wants to enslave the dragons and seize power over the people. But it was not there. Hiccup and his best friend Bezzubik adequately go through all the trials, defeat the villain, and also find the mother of the main character who was lost 20 years ago.

No doubt How to train your dragon 2 is a worthy continuation of the first part. The picture expanded the boundaries of the main actions, added new types of dragons, new islands. One can only guess how much we still do not know about the world of dragons and Vikings. Also in the second part there are new bright characters. One of them is Ikking’s mother. Even 20 years ago, she realized that dragons can become human friends, but, unfortunately, could not convince anyone of this. But, having left the island of Allah, she was able to save many species of dragons from extinction. That is why this character is especially close to me.

The main theme of the film is the invincible power of friendship, solidarity and love. As long as there are such strong feelings, we are able to resist violence and evil, we can make the world a better place!

I took my 5 1/2 year old daughter to watch Trolls, and for her it was a sight for sore eyes. The main character, Poppy (voiced by Anna Kendrick) is a fluffy, instantly lovable princess troll, who has been raised in a careless, yet slightly obnoxious, world – where everyone hugs each other on an hourly basis, poops cupcakes and bursts into sappy pop tunes in the blink of the eye. Her male counterpart, on the other hand, is all doom and gloom. This troll party pooper, named Branch and colored gray to differentiate him from the endlessly colorful group of merry trolls, keeps warning his friends that their loud lifestyle will put their lives in jeopardy, once the evil Bergens, who are only happy when they eat the tiny little Trolls, will take notice of them. Sure enough, this does happen pretty soon into the movie, and when several Trolls are taken – Poppy and Branch (who refuses to sing throughout the film, even though he is ironically voiced by Justin Timberlake) need to join forces in order to save them.

All in all, Trolls is a very cute film. It stands out of the pack with its familiar setting (the Troll toys have been very popular ever since the early 90’s), its rich palette of colors and imaginative drawings, and the catchy tunes which are cleverly adapted into the film. Also, its short run-time will make sure your kids are glues to the chair. On the flip side, I felt the plot didn’t really offer anything new, the proceedings were predictable from miles away, and that it lacked a stronger emotional pull that could have left a longer impression. There was some stuff in the movie that seemed like it was trying a bit too hard to be tongue-in- cheek, without really taking itself seriously, and while it gave way to a few laughs, it left me wanting something more than just another cute animated feature.

Storyline
Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan with a few friends and who lives alone with his father. His life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming. However, one day he makes the simple decision to become a super-hero even though he has no powers or training.

Best original superhero movie to date
When I first saw Kick Ass i was expecting more action than comedy. However, I was wrong with how surprisingly funny the movie turned out to be. I thought Hit Girl was what made the movie shine as she was cussing and slaughtering people. Aaron Johnson did a good job playing the lead role of Kick Ass and I thought Nicolas Cage was good at playing Big Daddy as it wasn’t the typical Cage film. This movie beats a lot of those stupid high school movies and chick flicks that are trying to be funny but fail. This is a great combination of bloody action and comedy. Its the Super Bad meets Kill Bill genre. I highly recommend this film.
