I just got back from watching part 4 of John Wick.

To be honest, I was disappointed with part 3 of Baba Yaga’s adventures. The plot was too cluttered, rather weak action, after the sequel. So I went to part 4 with a bit of trepidation that it will continue in this vein. I didn’t even watch any of the trailers on purpose before going. And you know, maybe it helped me. About the plot we will not talk long, yes it continues the ideas of 3. Yes we still get to know the world of Killers and a lot of new characters appear. But almost everyone is revealed, aided by almost three hours of timing. Gave a cool moment/scene to make them memorable. And the overall plot here you could say put all the dots on the i. A couple of questions, of course, remain open, but perhaps in future films already Franchise / Universe us them will reveal.

But the main thing we love about the adventures of Brave White in Black is the action. And damn, how good is it. Yes, you’ll have to put up with pretty much the first 30 minutes of the picture (we don’t take the short battle in the desert into account) before the main course begins. There’s a lot of it. it’s varied, it surprises throughout the entire film. And he is at the head of everything.

All the technical part of the movie, the camera work, the color grading, the design of the locations, the music. Everything goes for the action. Yes, it’s unrealistic here, but how cool and diverse it is. Here you will have sword fights, gunfights and hand-to-hand fight. Use of the surroundings, including cars. The cameraman relishes every second of the fight, and the final act in Paris is a blast, literally and figuratively. Such a cool variety of fights has not been seen in a long time, in 3 I honestly can only remember motorcycles. The musical part of the tape also perfectly sets the dynamics of the battle, sometimes just bantering with the viewer (worth the track Nowhere to run). Of course, some episodes may seem too pathetic to many people, but you just have to catch the wave of the picture. Because it doesn’t even try to be serious.

The only drawback I will call the same timing. Yes I understand the director’s desire to savor the images of the characters, to show the cool sets for the movie. Though we can call it just a pause for the viewer, for their eyes to rest and be ready to savor a new portion of action. Well, and the cranberries that continue to go with the third installment, but there are fewer of them here.

To summarize, this is a cool comeback for the franchise, after a rather controversial threequel. Great, exciting, delightful and a million more rapturous epithets for which all the other technical parts of the tape work. Because of that you can forgive all the other disadvantages of the picture.

One fine day, a handsome guy with a large backpack on his back knocked on the door of a family that had lost their son and brother in the war. He introduced himself as a colleague of the deceased guy, to which, naturally, the mother invited the guest to the house. According to David, whom the guest introduced himself, the son died in front of his eyes, and the last thing he asked was to convey the words of love to his relatives, and David, as a faithful friend, kept his promise. Despite the visible dissatisfaction of the daughter and the quarrel with her husband, the mother of the deceased could not help leaving her son’s friend with her, but David was waiting for this …

As the poster says, ‘be careful who you let into your home.’ This phrase is the main meaning of the film. No matter how nice and kind the guest is, no matter who he introduces himself, no matter what he says, no matter what he puts pressure on, you cannot trust completely and completely. In the film, the maternal instinct worked, when a mother, who lost her child, especially in the war, tries to cover the bitterness of the loss thanks to at least some information from the lips of those who were with him in the last minutes, and the main character is cunning and took advantage of this … It is a very real situation, possible, thus plausible.

At the expense of the dynamics, I can’t say that this film can boast of this, but I was not bored, even, on the contrary, constant tension, some kind of mysterious atmosphere, just as mysterious as this Guest, who looks nice and kind in public, but as soon as everyone walks out the door, he becomes terribly brooding and, frankly, angry. And this is entirely the merit of Dan Stevens. To my regret, I have not seen any work where he would have been in the first roles, but here .. but here he worked perfectly! Simply gorgeous! There are two people in one body! I believe!!! People are captivated by his appearance, manners and warmth, downright radiated from him, but if you don’t follow him, he becomes a truly scary person! A kind of mixture of Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper. I would be glad to see him in other films. Among other actors, I will only note Mike Monroe: there is something in her, but she still needs to work on expressing emotions.

Another guarantee of the right atmosphere was the correct soundtrack. The same gloomy, gray, old-school or something. In general, what you need. There are no complaints about the schedule, and those that exist can be attributed to an obviously not the most solid budget.

Adam Wingard, to be honest, surprised. After the second-rate, boring horror films, he turned out to be a strong film in its own way (unless the ending can say otherwise). But, of course, the main trump card of the film is Dan Stevens, who played flawlessly. I looked with interest.

After the monstrous in its meaninglessness megalomaniac mess called “Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters”, the WB monster universe needed an injection, and taking into account the realities in which the movie world lives now, it should have been carried out very quickly. The patient was perfect for this – you have a crossover of King Kong and Godzilla, monsters familiar to a huge number of viewers, you have (good or bad, it’s a matter of taste) solo albums for both of them, you have the opportunity to arrange a total apocalypse during a collision these Titans. The irony is that almost all of these introductory notes were relevant for the sequel to Godzilla, which did not stop the carnival of the collision of huge monsters from turning into a family drama about the strange affairs of Millie Bobby Brown. The bad news is that her character is still in this MCU, which provokes the appearance in the crossover of a completely meaningless secondary line, as if flown here from the new Spider-Man films. And there is nothing wrong with a pretty awkward and shy humor, but there is no Tom Holland here, but there are huge monsters throwing military fighters at each other, therefore such humoresque looks as alien as possible and is cut off from the general rhythm and mood.

The good news is that the creators realized that it is still better to lurch towards the Kongo “Skull Island”, so the emphasis is again on the title characters and smaller monsters from their environment, and not on ecoterrorists, families, families of ecoterrorists and random crying people. By minimizing the human presence in the frame, the scriptwriters even render a service to the characters, because the less their story is here, the more efficiently it works. That the hero of Alexander Skarsgard, who looks unusual but interesting in the role of an eccentric scientist, that the sinister character of Demian Bichir, evokes some kind of empathy precisely because in their importance they are located only after the two real giant stars of this film. This honesty with your audience even allows you to forgive the conventions of the script, in some places openly torn off by the laws of gravity and common sense.

Under the rolling and epic tunes from Junkie XL, the giants in Hong Kong are causing such a riot that only their heels sparkle. They do not try to hide a huge budget from the viewer – as in Skull Island, almost all battle scenes take place in the daylight, and epileptic flickering and “bang-bang, vjuuuh” are minimized. It is noticeable that the writers really tried to come up with some interesting things to pump up the dynamics between the monsters, and therefore the local “sea battle” and other combat scenes look fresh and exciting. But in addition to loud and noisy scenes, attention is paid to the “human” side of the monsters, especially Kong, who formally acts here almost as a defender of humanity against the suddenly angry Godzilla. The homages towards the 2005 film from Peter Jackson look appropriate, touchingly playing on the audience nostalgia. Everything here honestly works to entertain the viewer, leaving questions about the value and unforgettableness of this crossover solely to the judgment of time. Just as Kong and Godji are honest with humanity, sometimes they are forced to give him in a presumptuous face, so the movie about them follows the same path, which only pleases.

Chad Stahelsky deserves applause. Having been on the set of Raven in 1994 and on the set of The Matrix, where the future director met Keanu Reeves, he presented the world an incredibly rich and spectacular franchise about one of the most venerable killers in the world over the years. Stahelsky’s cooperation with Reeves has been going on for two decades and, personally, I want it to continue and the world saw the fourth “John Wick.

At one time I wrote a negative review of the first part, it was too disappointing that the topic of evil Russians reappeared. However, after reviewing the film and watching the second part, I changed my mind. Now this dilogy (now the trilogy) is one of the most beloved.

The fact that the director has not changed in any of the three films speaks volumes. The same trilogy of The Dark Knight, filmed by Nolan, is sustained in the same style and the director, setting the tone in Batman. The Beginning , did not depart from its principles in both the second and third films. Same thing with Stahelsky. Raising the bar of saturation, style and brightness in the first part, he clearly follows it in the second and third films.

This applies to the external design – filming nightly New York from a height, color filling with a predominance of blue neon shades, the persistence of the main character’s style, which does not change itself and will never exchange a strict suit with a tie for a T-shirt and jeans. Whether it’s a stuffy city, charming Casablanca or desert sands. John is John. John is always on style. And, what’s cool – he doesn’t really care what he looks like while running around New York — he’s dirty and does not pay attention to the possible slanting looks of those around him — they don’t care (judging by the picture – and they also absolutely don’t care, what’s going on around).

Composer Tyler Bates, who worked with Stahelsky in all three parts, again shook his atmospheric and spectacular (yes, that’s exactly the kind of word you can apply to Bates music!) Soundtracks! They are cool! They are really cool, and as it was in the second part, when you could hear the balalaika among the general audio sequence, the same thing here – the music is presented in the form of a rich and powerful accompaniment that only enhances the effect of what is happening on the screen.

What I liked more is the development of the legend about the Board, Clans, killers and the inner kitchen of the entire criminal world. The first part was the tip of the iceberg, in the second there were bills, black marks, blood oaths, in the third the legend of this world expands, new details and terms are added (such as “Secularized – in relation to the Continental Hotel), principles are demonstrated and laws (seven shots in seven bullets) or proof of loyalty (in the case of Wick himself and the heroine of Angelica Houston), or strict adherence to codes when medical instruments need to be postponed at exactly six, because even a second help from the “ecomunicado will akazana. In short, Chad Stahelsky and his team did a great job to create a whole new world. As far as I can understand, there wasn’t even a comic book on which the film was made, that is, the creators of the trilogy wrote the whole Universe of Wick from scratch (if there were comics or something like that, I apologize).

Recently, more and more I pay attention to sound design and sound quality. So, in the third “Wick a great job was done in terms of noise special effects, which is why each shot from different weapons is distinguishable from others. The details on the part of the echo in different rooms, the knock of heels on different surfaces and other nuances are well-designed.

It’s great that Lance Reddick (Charon) got more screen time and is now not only the host of Continental. It’s great that the line of John Wick the dog lover continues here and the dog of the protagonist from the first film is also involved here.

In addition, Keanu Reeves himself, who for several months has been training with professional fighters of special forces, should be noted, so that his actions on the screen are really high-quality and professional, and not amateurish. By the way, this looks very cool in the scene when he drives cartridges into the shotgun barrel, reducing reload time as much as possible and alternately uses an assault rifle and gun when he realizes that there is no time to change the magazine, but there is a second to snatch a new weapon.

After watching the movie on the big screen, I personally was not only satisfied with what I saw, but also impressed. Good scope, quality execution, first-class study of details, a worthy continuation of the first two parts with an even greater number of shootings, deaths (there are probably more than one per minute of timing).

Keanu Reeve is John Wick. He’s a deadly and unstoppable hit-man, and it shows. “John Wick” is short and to the point, but so much fun. At 1 hour and 36 minutes running time, there is never a dull moment in what may be one of the best action films of the year.

Still, Keanu Reeves is the star of the show, and this is the best I have seen him in quite awhile. Again, the story is straightforward and audiences know what emotional journey to expect, but Keanu displays a good amount of range in his portrayal of Wick that is still nice to see. Just like his character states, I’m thinking he’s back. “John Wick” is an awesome and enjoyable action flick that I would recommend.

To put it simply, the movie is fascinating, exciting and fantastic. The dialog, the fight choreography, the way the story moves, the characters charisma, all and much more are combined together to deliver this masterpiece. Such an amazing flow, providing a fusion between the 90s and the new century, it’s like the assassins are living in another world, with another mindset, without people understanding it. Just one advice for you though: Don’t build an expectation of what you want to watch in this movie, if you do, then you will ruin it. This movie has it’s own flow and movement, so watch it with a clear mind, and have fun.

Sin 1: Tossing out established canon.
The coolest bit of lore about the first movie is completely lost in the sequel. That alone is a sin you cannot redeem yourself for. In the original, it was established canon that John Wick was not a man to mess with. Even the main villain, respected and feared his abilities.

In John Wick 2, however, all of that is gone. Nobody fears John Wick. Nobody is afraid to take him on. His past deeds and reputation mean absolutely squat.

The new villain, never thinks twice about double crossing Wick. Every hit-man on the planet, and according to this movie they are every where, has no qualms about trying to take Wick out.

Sin 2: No main character growth In the first movie, we travel along with Wick as he avenges his dog and in the end moves forward with his grief. The video of his wife tells him to get up and move on. In John Wick 2, there is zero character growth. He is no different at the end of the movie as he is when it starts. Sure his circumstances have been altered, but as a character he has overcome nothing. That makes for a boring story.

Sin 3: Weak plot The original movie had a simple, but strong plot. Revenge. The plot of the sequel is weak, even by action movie standards. Wick has been called into service to kill a criminal, if he refuses he dies… but wait if he accepts, he also dies. The whole movie could have started and ended with the original premise of refusing the contract. It would have made more sense to refuse the contract and fight off the baddies coming to enforce the blood oath.

Sin 4: Video Game Bad Guys Wow. There is evidently a plethora of John Wick cannon fodder. They just keep coming, and there really is no logical reason why they do. The body count is so high that it becomes comical. The original had a big body count, but it was divided among 5 big action scenes and, for an action movie, seemed plausible. This one doubles the body count but there are so many, the coolness of each kill is lost in an over abundance of victims.

Sin 5: Invincible Superhero Hit by two cars, stabbed and shot numerous times and he just keeps on going. Must be seeing the doctor and getting pain pills, right? Nope no doctors in this one. That kind of logical realism may interfere with the killing of cardboard bad guys. At one point a fellow assassin, holds a pistol point blank in Wick’s abdomen and fires a couple shots through him. No biggie Wick has another 42 bad guys to kill.

Sin 6: James Bond Gadgets I love the Continental, don’t get me wrong, but the secret underground hit-man hosting hotel just goes too far in this one. Bulletproof suit coats that can be held up like Batman’s cape to shield yourself from bullets? Silencers so quiet that two adversaries can have a shootout in a subway between bystanders and nobody knows even though bullet holes are being blasted into the walls around them?

Sin 7: Shallow Villains Yes there are the 140 plus cardboard video game baddies, but in the first John Wick, the main villain had a moral dilemma: turn over his son to save his own butt. The bad guys in Wick 2 have no interesting character motivation or dilemmas. The closest you get is Common’s desire for revenge after Wick kills his client. And that was the most interesting bad guy on the screen. It is hard to believe the two movies were written by the same folks.

Sin 8: Soundtrack John Wick 1 had an unbelievable soundtrack that actually set the mood as he moved through the action scenes and the emotional scenes. This soundtrack just plain sucks. There is nothing memorable in it, and it does little to impart any emotion on a given scene.

Sin 9: Pacing Even the big action scenes in this movie are too long. In their desire to up the body count they went with longer action sequences. It really messes with the pace of the film. The first movie did a great job of dividing the action and keeping the viewer engaged. The longer these scenes go, the less believable they became which pulls the audience out of the moment.

Sin 10: Rehashing things that worked in the first movie There are some great scenes in the first Wick, and the director knew that so they tried to repeat them. This is a classic sequel mistake and unfortunately Wick 2 falls victim to this trope. You liked the interaction with Jimmy? We will get another one in there. Like the reload and kill? We will put a twist on that one also. It was great to see the pencil kills, that is how it should be done. Don’t show us the same thing but different. Show us new, that may have been mentioned previously.

Making the next sequel look better then this one. The end of this movie sets up a very interesting plot for a third movie and almost everyone that walked out was excited to see it. That is wonderful, except when that movie actually sounds more interesting then the one you just watched. You should have just made that movie instead.

All in all Wick 2 falls short of the first one. Once again we are treated to an amazing movie whose sequel just doesn’t capture the magic of the first one. I’m looking at you Red 2, Donnie Darko 2, Matrix 2, etc…
