The full-length film “Downton Abbey” is a beautiful but essentially unnecessary sequel to the iconic series.

The intrinsic quality does not cheat it this time either. The quality of the production, the sets, the costumes, the acting is traditionally at a high level, and the opening music, as before, creates an atmosphere of pleasant anticipation.

The movie is intended exclusively for fans of the series, and for those who remember both the characters and the events quite well, because there are simply no leads, introductions, or explanations. A viewer unfamiliar with the TV source will not understand a thing, but, let’s face it, the series is not intended for outsiders. It is a reunion of old friends after a slightly prolonged separation.

On the whole, the movie is more about atmosphere than events. That beauty and solemnity, along with the coziness and positive charisma of most of the characters, evoke simple but pleasant emotions from the viewer. We rejoice in their small victories, worry a little for them in moments of difficulty, laugh at the jokes, and admire the conservative grandeur of the old manor.

The events themselves, however, are somewhat local in nature, and even the arrival of the monarchs on the Grantham estate serves more as an occasion for the general flywheel of events than as the center of what is going on. Drawing its narrative style directly from the series, the film devotes screen time to almost every character, giving them a few lines, brief adventures, and largely insignificant actions. Unlike a full-fledged, stand-alone movie, we will not see the development of the characters, their metamorphosis as the story progresses, after all, as there is no such climax here either. Perhaps if the plot had concentrated around a few main characters, giving them more space for action, the overall narrative would have only benefited.

You get the feeling throughout the movie that it’s just another episode like the Christmas specials at the end of the show’s seasons. The movie ends in exactly the same state of affairs as it begins, except for a few exceptions, which only underscores the rule. At this rate, if the box office proves successful, another sequel could be waiting for us in a few years.

In the end, it has all the best things we love about “Downton Abbey” as a series, but it clearly lacks what makes it a full-length feature film.

Nevertheless, there is a chance for devoted fans to revisit a little bit of the old home in England.

This is the tale of Harry Potter, an ordinary 11-year-old boy serving as a sort of slave for his aunt and uncle who learns that he is actually a wizard and has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is snatched away from his mundane existence by Hagrid, the grounds keeper for Hogwarts, and quickly thrown into a world completely foreign to both him and the viewer. Famous for an incident that happened at his birth, Harry makes friends easily at his new school. He soon finds, however, that the wizarding world is far more dangerous for him than he would have imagined, and he quickly learns that not all wizards are ones to be trusted.

To millions of children of all ages, November 16 has been more eagerly anticipated than Christmas, as the long-awaited film version of J. K. Rowling’s beloved novel “Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone” hits the screen.

Each of Rowling’s four movie Harry Potter books have been critically acclaimed worldwide best-sellers, turning a generation of video-game playing children into avid readers.

In translating Rowling’s world of wizards and magic to the screen, the film makers claimed to be intensely aware of the fans’ high expectations and had sworn to be faithful to the book.

“Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone” is indeed the most loyal film adaptation of a book that this fan has ever seen.

It’s the story of an orphaned boy who discovers on his eleventh birthday that his parents were wizards and that he is in fact a famous and powerful wizard himself.

Released from the clutches of his desperately ordinary (and non-magical) Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia – and their deliciously obnoxious son Dudley – Harry takes his place in the wizarding world as a first year student at the venerated Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

A great deal of movie “Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone” is an introduction to this fantastic and dangerous world and its richly drawn characters. There’s not only a lot of plot to cover in this film, but an entire world to create.

At two and a half hours long (hit the restroom before it starts), the film includes the book’s most memorable scenes, bringing many of them to life with pure cinematic wizardry.

The Quidditch match (a soccer/hockey/rugby thing played on broomsticks) is much more exciting on the screen than on the page, as is the bathroom battle with an enormous mountain troll and the larger-than-life game of wizard’s chess.

The frightening aspects of the book are in full force in the film, and its PG rating (for some scary moments) should be taken seriously.

Screenwriter Steven Kloves (“Wonder Boys”) has done a fine job of streamlining Rowling’s tale while maintaining its spirit. Director Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”) makes good on his promise to be faithful to the book. But at times the film is a bit too reverent; you want the actors to cut loose and have a bit more fun.

Columbus clearly understands that fantasy works best when it’s played most real. Across the board, his fine ensemble of actors are so perfectly cast that they appear to have literally stepped out of Rowling’s book.

In the title role, Daniel Radcliffe pulls off the very difficult task of playing an introverted hero who spends most of the movie reacting to the amazing sights and events around him. He beautifully captures the deep soul and untapped potential of Harry Potter. And when this kid smiles the screen lights up.

Rupert Grint is delightful as Harry’s sardonic buddy Ron Weasley and Emma Watson nearly steals the film as their overachieving friend Hermione Granger. Three cheers to the film makers for giving three unknown child actors the top billing they deserve.

The strong cast of veteran actors includes Richard Harris as the wise Headmaster Dumbledore and Robbie Coltrane as the lovable giant Hagrid. Alan Rickman is wonderfully villainous as Professor Snape and Zoe Wanamaker has just the right touch of girls gym teacher as flying instructor Madame Hooch.

As the strict but just Professor McGonagall, Oscar winner Maggie Smith seems born to play the role – and is ready for another Oscar.

John Cleese (as Nearly Headless Nick) and Julie Walters (as Mrs. Weasley) have all-too-brief cameo roles, but if the next film “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” remains true to the book, we’ll be seeing more of them.

In addition to being highly engaging, the film is a marvelous thing to look at. From the bustling wizard street Diagon Alley to the magnificently gothic Hogwarts School to the dark and misty Forbidden Forest, the film breaks new ground in imaginative production design.

To paraphrase the film’s tagline, let the magic (and box office records) begin.

Hook 4K is a movie of my childhood. How nice to download it now, and see in 4K Ultra HD. This is my childhood, which does not end, thanks in large part to him.

Many foreign children grew up on the story of Peter Pan, a boy who did not want to be an adult, about his adventures in the Magic Country, about fights with pirates and Captain Hook.

Personally, I found out about him at 10, when a VCR and a cassette with a picture of Steven Spielberg Captain Hook appeared in the house.

This film tells how Peter Pan matured, married, became the father of two children and completely forgot about who he is. He is afraid of flying, he does not like surprises, he constantly discusses matters on the phone, he does not have time to come and see how his son plays baseball. He, of course, does not believe in fairies and miracles, he has no idea about who Hook is.

But chance makes him turn back into his past.

The family comes to visit Grandma Wendy (the very Wendy, who herself once visited the Magic Country), Peter’s children are kidnapped, leaving a note from Kruk.

To get them back, Peter Pan needs to remember. Recall who he is, who he was, where he came from, what he felt. He needs to remember himself, the present.

This is a wonderful film, because it speaks of eternal things, which, unfortunately, are so often forgotten. Life is an adventure. Each of us must have our own happy thoughts so that we can fly. we must have dreams, and love and hope must always live in our hearts.

Even if you are older – it does not mean that you need to leave childhood in the past. You need to be able to smile and believe in fairies.

Formerly this film was a beautiful fairy tale for me, now I look at it differently. he does not let me forget the main thing.
