I’m a fan of the game, I’m satisfied. That would be the end of it, but there are still some things I’d like to talk about.

At the time of writing this review, only the pilot episode has been released and I was satisfied with it. Honestly, it was hard to believe that the series will appeal to the people after all the comments under almost every new news about the series. But after seeing the ratings, I was pleasantly surprised. Let’s quickly run through the pros and move on to the cons, which are pretty subjective.

Pros:

1. The script itself. It sticks to the original game and expands the lore, with new added scenes. Characters are better revealed in the little time they were given in the beginning.

2. Atmosphere. It’s really believable. Everything looks ruined, time-torn and gives some goosebumps.

3- The acting. Pedro Pascal is straight up my respect. His choice for the role of Joel has always pleased me because the actor knows how to act and resembles the character. Bella Ramsay in the role of Ellie also did not disappoint, although she does not look like the heroine from the game, but we’ll talk about it in the minus.

4. Soundtrack. They are just as good as they were in the original game.

5. So far, the series is showing itself to be a good adaptation of the video game, which is rare these days.

Minuses:

1. Many of the actors don’t look like characters from the game. This minus applies specifically to those who have played and seen the appearance of the characters in the game. Like for example Tess or Ellie, but as actors there are no claims, so I called this minus subjective. Those who are familiar with the series and did not play the game, will not notice anything. But still, as a fan of the game would like to see actors who are similar to the characters. Plus, if the official footage is to be believed, some characters have had their skin color changed. No, I’m not racist, but when a white character can be made dark-skinned and a dark-skinned white character can’t, it’s hard to see the very same character from the game in front of you.

In closing, I will say that I am looking forward to the next episodes. After watching the first episode, I wanted to see what happens next. Even though I know the plot of this game, I’m still curious. This is the main achievement of the whole team of creators. They managed to keep the interest of a person who is already familiar with the whole story. Recommended for viewing

That the return of Paul Greengrass to the director’s chair, and Matt Damon to the lead role, would mean a return to its former quality after the highly dubious spin-off of Tony Gilroy with Jeremy Renner, no one doubted. But still there were fears that the new chapter would become optional and unnecessary in the franchise about a former CIA agent who lost his memory, because “Identity”, “Superiority” and “Ultimatum” were a completely completed trilogy that does not need sequels or branches (yes, another slap in the direction of unnecessary “Bourne Evolution”). It always seemed that everything that was possible had already been said in them. But!

Despite the fact that in the first act the events develop in a similar way as in the previous tapes about Jason (here’s Bourne, who has gone to the bottom again; here are new high-ranking CIA representatives and cold-blooded mercenaries; here is a new controversial project and people who are ready for it expose; here the hero again gets involved in all this and becomes a target), then the film begins to acquire new intonations.

Let’s start with the fact that Damon’s character line is getting a qualitative development. You say, in the final of The Bourne Ultimatum, he remembers everything and puts an end to his past? No matter how it is! It does not sleep, and now people who once influenced his fate no less strongly than the characters of Chris Cooper, Albert Finney and other old-timers begin to hunt for Jason, and Bourne himself has new personal motives. All this reveals the story of the hero much deeper and, which is very important, nowhere does it seem that the plot has been sucked out of the thumb like, for example, in last year’s “007: SPECTRUM”. The motivations of others are just as good here, especially if we consider the newcomers – the characters of Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, Reese Ahmed and, especially, Alicia Vikander adequately complement the universe of the “bornian”, perhaps even surpassing the previous secondary characters of the franchise.

What should be noted is how vividly in the new series actual topics are written: unrest and protests of the public; violation of privacy and total surveillance of citizens by special services; radical methods of the CIA and their connections with the founders of social networks, and much more. Edward Snowden is also mentioned several times, clearly becoming a symbol and inspiration for new fighters against the system in the picture. After all, Paul Greengrass is not a simple artisan, but a talented and intelligent director, so you really shouldn’t turn your tongue to call “Jason Bourne” a trifling and secondary action movie. He is relevant to the marrow of his bones and for this he should be given credit.

But in general, “Borniana, first of all, has always been a story about the search for oneself and the desire to do the right thing, despite the pressure of the ghosts of the past who want to prevent this in every possible way. And here this theme still works, finding a response from those viewers who understand this and are looking for the same. In addition to this, Jason Bourne raises questions such as: “Where is the line that separates actions aimed at good from bad and selfish?”

And, of course, a little about the action. I must say right away – he is not the best in the franchise. But this does not mean that the creators have taken a step back. The scenes of chases and fights are kept on the same level with the previous tapes, and Matt Damon, although he has aged almost 9 years since the last appearance, is still able to kick his opponents, albeit not so effectively. The camera shake signature style, which Greengrass himself set the trend for with the release of The Bourne Supremacy in 2004, is present, but thanks to new cameraman Barry Aykroyd (The Hurt Locker, Captain Phillips), what is happening on the screen is already does not flicker as much as it did before. However, impressionable viewers should still sit away from the screen to avoid the desire to swear after the session due to eye fatigue. And yes, the Las Vegas chase scene … Do not leave the hall until you watch it. It’s worth it.

To summarize, this is a worthy return to one of the main spy franchises of the 21st century. Not the best film in the series, but far from falling face down in the dirt. The film directed by Paul Greengrass will not present almost anything new in terms of production, but it will still be able to find a response in the heart and again make you empathize with one of the most interesting lone heroes in the history of cinema. I think that in this case, more is not needed.

The final chapter of the movie universe about mutant superheroes was released. Of course, after the Apocalypse and Logan, the public expected an explosion, literacy, scale and originality. With something, the Phoenix got to the point, but not with everything.

I’ll start with the positive aspects – this is, first and foremost, a picture. Beautiful battles in the good old style of “People X”, accurate work with special effects and high-quality graphics. Immediately drive, dynamics and frequent, but justified slow-mo. It is felt that a master was standing behind the camera, namely Mauro Fiore (Avatar, Living Steel, Left-Handed). Add the music from above by Hans Zimmer, who worked, as always, for 100% and chic editing, “caressing the audience’s eye from Lee Smith (“The Dark Knight, “The Beginning, “Interstellar, “Dunkirk).

It is worth noting the strongest cast, led by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, as well as Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Holt and the newcomer to the world of comics, Jessica Chastain. Separately, I want to say about Sophie Turner. For me, the young actress proved that she does not plan to stay Sansa Stark forever, and is able to move on. Honestly, no complaints.

Let’s go to the minuses: these are extremely weak dialogues of heroes; stamp on stamp, everything is too pathetic, naive, down to earth and moments are very stupid. It can be seen that in the replicas “a whole bucket of water is poured”, sometimes the same thought is chewed by the characters a hundred times. In addition, the antagonists of the film seemed empty to me. Somehow they are lazily spelled out: ordinary, with an extremely strange kind of murder, not inspiring fear, albeit having a motive.

Well, of course, I will move on to the saddest fragment of the picture. FEMINISM – where would we be without him? When Mystic said it was time to rename the team to Women X … I had a heart attack. They got to such franchises. It’s not even the gathering of all Marvel heroines on the same stage in the Avengers finale – at least it was epic, even if it’s immediately clear what’s what. But that, this is no longer funny!

Hostiles 4K Review
Deep and long simmering hatred is stirred up when Captain Blocker, an experienced and capable yet bitter western war veteran, is ordered to lead the transfer of a small band of Cheyenne from New Mexico to Montana. Blocker is enraged because the band includes Yellow Hawk, the killer of his friends. Forced to go, Blocker puts Yellow Hawk in chains for the long ride. The unlikely travel companions meet up with a grief-stricken woman in the burnt remains of her home. She cradles a dead baby in her arms and hovers on the brink of insanity. Worse, the unstable and dangerous men who massacred the woman’s family are now on their trail. Sympathy for the woman as well as the desire for self-preservation begins to unite the Cheyenne and the soldiers.

There are wonderful film themes to digest including the understanding that hostility can come from anywhere or anyone. We are all potential hostiles. It is a sight for sore eyes to watch the characters travel through beautiful prairies and wildlands. Actors including Chistian Bale, Wes Studi and Rosamund Pike, perform impressively. While the actor chemistry is a bit off and much time is wasted in useless blubbering, there is an uncommon, important and intriguing American history lesson here. Seen at the Toronto International Film Festival.
