Here is a quote from the movie: “You have to believe in yourself.” She perfectly reveals European egocentrism. Manufacturing countries – France, USA – used the popular Russian actor Alexander Petrov.

Sasha Luss plays well the emotionlessness inherent in all beautiful girls. The heroine Anna reminds the heroine Nikita from the movie of the same name. There are cranberries in the film that all Russians like to play chess. I don’t know how Russian agents from the Russian special services feel, but the film says that they are all proud of serving their country. Maybe this phrase about pride is another cranberry, but everyone in the world of special services does not divide the world only into black and white (it seems so to me). The film consists of philosophical phrases about the homeland, about trouble, about love, about the country’s debt, about death. The film consists of general philosophical phrases.

Luke Besson is a director, screenwriter, and producer. The film is gorgeous: the intrigue is held throughout the film. I really liked the film: “I was waiting for what would happen to the heroine in the end.” The end of the film is purely European. The film is very European and it impresses me.

Story film Valerian
In the Century XXVIII, the space station Alpha is a city where beings from different planets live together exchanging their knowledge and culture. They succeed and back to Alpha, unknown humanoids abduct Commander Arun Filitt expecting to steal the converter. They head to a forbidden area that is infected but Valerian and Laureline follow them and disclose a hidden secret about the race and the infected area.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Review
What if the Star Wars prequels had been handed over to a better director? What if The Force Awakens and Rogue One had aimed at being original and fun science fantasy films rather than just playing on people’s nostalgia?

This is what I found myself seeing as I was watching Valerian download movie 4k. A film that made Space Opera’s fun and exciting again.

I was surprised by the two leads. The trailers made it feel like we’d be seeing a rehash of the two main leads from Ender’s Game but I was surprised at how fun and spunky (and flawed) the two characters were to watch. The romance was not there and it did not need to be there because this film is not a romance nor centered around a romance.

This film is Luc Besson taking what people loved about the Fifth Element and stretching it to the entire movie.

And yes, it is true, it is visually the prettiest movie since Avatar. The kids I took with me to see this film had their eyes on the screen the whole time, no bathroom break, no water break, just a visually mesmerizing film that never tired its audience.

My recommendation is to go see it on the bring screen to experience the marvel of it. It’s a shame it is not available in IMAX Blu-ray 4k 2160p.

Storyline
In the twenty-third century, the universe is threatened by evil. The only hope for mankind is the Fifth Element, who comes to Earth every five thousand years to protect the humans with four stones of the four elements: fire, water, Earth and air. A Mondoshawan spacecraft is bringing The Fifth Element back to Earth but it is destroyed by the evil Mangalores. However, a team of scientists use the DNA of the remains of the Fifth Element to rebuild the perfect being called Leeloo. She escapes from the laboratory and stumbles upon the taxi driver and former elite commando Major Korben Dallas that helps her to escape from the police. Leeloo tells him that she must meet Father Vito Cornelius to accomplish her mission. Meanwhile, the Evil uses the greedy and cruel Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg and a team of mercenary Mangalores to retrieve the stones and avoid the protection of Leeloo. But the skilled Korben Dallas has fallen in love with Leeloo and decides to help her to retrieve the stones.

I really believe that they billed this movie wrong. Many folks came in expecting the next Star Wars and were disappointed, to say the least. It’s not like Star Wars. It’s kinda like a live action comic book. Visually stunning, awesome use of color that just jumps out at you, and non-stop action, lots of it done with tongue firmly in cheek. Plot? Well forget the plot, it’s the weak point of the film. But hey who ever said comic books had to have strong plots? Willis, Jovovich, and the rest do a fine job. I especially like the casting of Jovovich, she exudes innocence, vulnerability, sex, exotica, intelligence, and kung fu machismo all at the same time. So turn off the cynicism sign as you watch and just enjoy the ride. Great stuff!
