I fell in love with this movie when I was a kid, and I couldn’t take any other movies about extraterrestrial civilizations. The camerawork was so well done, the special effects were beautiful (I especially liked how the beam destroys skyscrapers and the white house), and the plot was excellent, though not original (the alien invasion was a long-standing theme by that time, but it was very well thought-out. For the first time, the dystopia of the situation for the Americans, and for all mankind, was shown on such a scale.

Of course, there is pathos in the movie, showing what a patriotic people Americans are, and once again they win and once again all the laurels go to them. But this unimportant detail pales before the acting. Jeff Goldblum was a particular delight. Will Smith played the fun-loving hero similar to his other characters in the other films. Once again, everything is on point.

The rest of the reviews have pretty much covered everything, I should just point out that this movie is fantastic not just because of the genre. This movie is fantastic because everything in it is perfect, and if you want to brighten up your evening with some movie masterpiece, watch ‘Independence Day’, the best movie in its genre. By the way, the box office proves it.

Lately I’ve been hearing more and more about new movies, not from trailers, but just from posters. Apparently, advertising prices have been going crazy lately. When I looked through the premieres of the week again, I was surprised to find a new film by the famous director Emmerich. At that moment I immediately decided that I would go see it at the cinema. After watching it, it was hard not to think with a swear word about the new picture…

The plot. Due to the impact of an unknown force, the Moon falls out of its usual orbit, which threatens to turn into a global catastrophe. NASA Deputy Director Joe Fuller tries to prevent the impending disaster…

We go to the genre column, see the word combination ‘science fiction’ there and instantly go crazy. The entire storyline can be safely described in just two words: monstrously unrealistic. If you’re hoping the writers will explain something to you in terms of logic, I hasten to disappoint you: there’s nothing of the sort here. The first half of the film I was frankly bored, and the second half of the film I was oh… I was very surprised at what was going on. The conscious singularity? What? Are they serious?! Everything that happens during the final flight looks like some kind of nightmare dream. I’m even glad I can’t describe what I saw in detail because of possible spoilers. Needless to say, the main characters in the film turn out to be superhuman again? Cataclysms don’t seriously threaten them, they manage to avoid apparent death at the last second several (!) times in a row… even a blast wave just might throw them back to the right shelter. Also worth mentioning are the classic silly things, where one character goes looking for another, then another volunteer wants to go after both of them… I’m so sick of it all, I just can’t take it anymore.

Atmosphere. On the surface, the picture resembles a mixture of ‘Oblivion’ and ‘To the Stars’ in the worst sense of the word. Not only does the film copy similarly silly situations from the aforementioned films, it also adds a huge amount of its own absurdity. Faceless actors play the same faceless characters. I don’t even have anyone to single out. Only the good camerawork and some good jokes deserve mentioning.

Special effects. Well, at least the creators didn’t fuck it up. Everything crumbles, breaks and falls apart with a monstrous crash here. At least visually, you can believe in the terrifying reality of what is happening on the screen.

Music. Represents the pathos and heroic melodies, which in some situations even look ridiculous.

Bottom line: I do not have in my head … The movie was made by grown-ups… How could this movie have been made? It would probably be forgivable if some novice amateur had made such a rubbish film. But I can’t forgive a person who made such a spit in the soul for a long time ago cult movies ‘Independence Day’ and ‘The Day After Tomorrow’. Go and think about your behavior, Mr. Roland Emmerich.

Do you know what Shiva, Ra and Emmerich have in common? These are the three most famous gods of destruction. Ra and Shiva are old gods, and Ronald Emmerich is a god of a new generation. Only he alone is able to destroy the Earth again and again so that every time everyone believes in what is happening. In “Independence Day” he destroyed the largest cities in the world, in “The Day After Tomorrow” he first flooded, and then froze, the entire northern hemisphere of the Earth. And then the day came when Ronald Emmerich made the underground plates move, and the continents, engulfed in an all-consuming flame, turn over and submerge under the water, leaving no one a chance for survival.

The plot of the film “2012” is based on the Mayan calendar, which ends in December 2012, on the day of the parade of the planets, the day when the apocalypse comes on Earth. The main character and his family are trying in every way to escape in the midst of a dying world. In doing so, they face various difficulties and various personalities. Among them are a Russian businessman with two sons, who took care of his salvation in advance, a crazy “DJ who predicted the end of the world long before everyone knew about the impending apocalypse, and many more interesting people with their own stories. The film is full of hilarious jokes and just cool moments that make it especially attractive to any viewer.

The graphics and special effects are so cool and spectacular that it will take your breath away. That there is only a scene of arrival in a limousine through a city sinking into the ground. Collapsing roads, exploding cars, driving a limousine through a falling skyscraper. This episode alone fully pays for the cost of even the most expensive movie ticket. I’m not even talking about how spectacular the explosion of the supervolcano and the huge tsunami that covers the mountains look. It is useless to describe what you need to see. I just want to add that one of the most beautiful and spectacular moments is the takeoff of the An-500 aircraft (it will be built in the future) from the crumbling airfield in Las Vegas. Beauty, and nothing more.

The acre play is absolutely amazing. The main characters play very convincingly, while the minor ones live the lives of their characters. That is only a Russian businessman. His phrases, his actions and behavior are unambiguously Russian. And in general, the film came out interesting for you and me, because there are a lot of Russians in the film, even our president is present, who is very similar to the young and fit Brezhnev.

The bottom line is that 2012 was by far the most devastating film of the last decade, to say the least. 260 million spent on it are fully justified by the middle of the film. And if Roland Emmerich, as promised, will really make the series “2013”, then “2012” may become not only the most expensive pilot episode of the series in the history of cinema, but also the most exciting, spectacular and cool. If you want to see how the Earth is collapsing, watch 2012. If you want to enjoy beautiful pictures and powerful special effects, see “2012”. If you like quality acting, watch 2012. But if you want to get it all together, then definitely go to the cinema with the biggest screens in your city and watch 2012!

The events of the film “Midway”, tell about the events that occurred in 1942 after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. These events in the film are given a little time and they act as a catalyst for everything that happened next. After the attack on the US military base, the Americans carried out their counter-attack, which was carried out by Lt. Col. James Doolittle. In this film, he was played by Aaron Eckhart, and in Pearl Harbor by Michael Bay, Alec Baldwin.

The picture tells about one of the key episodes of the war in the ocean, when Japan, after a sudden attack on Pearl Harbor, decided to attack Midway Atoll in order to neutralize the US forces on the water.

However, as a result of the effective work of American intelligence, the states managed to not only reveal the enemy’s cards, but also deliver a crushing blow, forcing the Japanese to retreat to their shores.

The film was shot by Roland Emmerich, who this time presented not an epoch-destroying movie, but a military historical drama telling about an event that changed the tactics and strategy of conducting military operations on the water. Already after the events of 1942, it became clear that aircraft carriers would take on the first roles in the Pacific Ocean, which would allow attacking enemy ships without approaching them and shooting them using airplanes.

Being a large-scale project, Midway acquired a strong budget of $ 100 million, so Emmerich was able to play well at entertainment. The graphics are at a high level, the battle scenes and especially the air battles are worked out perfectly, and global scenes, for example with flaming ships, are implemented very effectively.

Due to the fact that the film tells about a large military operation, it would be foolish to believe that here one or two or three key figures will be in the spotlight. There are a lot of characters and it’s not always possible to identify who is who and what commands, but these are the costs of the theme chosen by the director. It is impossible to show one admiral or ace pilot in a film about a major battle, having forgotten about the commander, about the head of intelligence or about who commanded the fleet. In this case, a large number of actors is the need to control the course of the war, have a backup option and act in concert – like a team.

In the case of Midway, as well as with the same Pearl Harbor or any other war film (remember our five-episode epic “Liberation – how many heroes were there!) A large number of characters take place. Someone like Aaron Eckhart, who played Lieutenant Colonel Doolittle or Dennis Quaid, who played the role of Admiral William “Buffalo” Halsey, received much less screen time compared to the heroes of Luke Evans or Ed Skrein. But their presence was necessary so that the viewer did not have the feeling that a couple of pilots were key figures in the battle for Midway Atoll.

In addition to the aforementioned actors, Woody Harelson, Patrick Wilson, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Alexander Ludwig and Tadanobu Asano were also involved here.

I used to be somewhat critical of some military foreign films, especially those that talk about the participation of the same Americans in World War II somewhere in Europe. However, now the understanding has come that both for us the Great Patriotic War, or any other, as well as any war of the USA or any other country, is, as in our case, part of their history.

Films about the war are being released in Russia, the Americans have their own views on certain specific events, and the very Japan has completely different ones. After all, if you take the same “Pearl Harbor and “Midway – this is an interpretation of events from the United States, and after all, Japan has its own movie on this subject – “Attack on Pearl Harbor, filmed in 2011 and telling about the admiral Yamamoto and shedding light on his figure from a slightly different angle …

Although Roland Emmerich’s film is not without various template moments, such as speeches in memory of a deceased comrade, dialogues between a husband and wife when He promises her to return home or episodes with the airy courage of soldiers, it turned out to be quite good. In some places, dramatic, in some places bravado, cinema saturated with scenes with hostilities, seemed to be a really good military historical drama, and it turned out to be such a reality.

Such excellent action movies as Universal Soldier can be attributed to the classics of the genre, and maybe even the whole American cinema combined. Just because there are only a few such films, and for the actors, they become the best in their movie careers. For Van Damme and Lundgren, this is one of the most successful projects individually, and their duet is probably one of the best in this genre. It’s not in vain that such a movie can be watched and admired after decades, but how cool they were able to shoot without modern computer technologies and an initial orientation to the general public. In a word, the immortal classics of the genre.

In general, it is interesting that director Emmerich, who has long specialized in disaster films, managed to shoot such a high-quality and spectacular fantastic action movie. No protractedness and nothing superfluous in the plot. From the very beginning, the action is served in the right doses, so much so that it is simply impossible to tear yourself away from the screen. Here’s the first encounter with Sleeping Sergeant Scott in Vietnam, an impressive splash screen with blue letters and corpse bags. The next moment, Private Luke and Sergeant Andrew are already as universal soldiers, devoid of emotion and turned into death machines in the service of the US government. And then begins the non-stop pursuit of Luke with a pretty reporter who, despite everything, began to recall the past. The sergeant, who, unfortunately, remembered only the worst, suffered the same fate.

As with the slightly earlier Terminator 2, the film stands out due to the humanization of the protagonist. And if the car there seemed huge and unshakable, then here Luke initially confronts a more powerful enemy, and he is more humane than his former commander. True, Andrew Scott performed by Lundgren is very good at the time of the manifestation of the post-traumatic syndrome, and not in the straight face at the beginning of the film. The fact that he is absolutely sure of the presence of traitors everywhere is both frightening and making fun. Plus, the charisma of Dolph Lundrgen adds strength and a certain irony to his character.

“Universal Soldier” is not just science fiction, it is a truly smart action movie. There are films of this genre where the emphasis is on action or only on the charisma of the main character. And here everything is harmonious, starting from the acting and ending with a logical plot, despite the fantastic component. The heroes have motives, their actions are justified, they do not say any nonsense, only on business, and they do. Luke has a goal – to find out what was done to him, to find his aged parents, and to protect the girl who helped him. Sergeant Scott – to find the main “traitor” and simultaneously destroy all the others, who, in his opinion, are also enemies. And interesting chases, calculated shooting and a spectacular final fight made from the “Universal Soldier” an example of a fantastic action movie, a classic of Hollywood.

I don’t know how accurately the movie repeats the original film and whether it can be called a remake or re-invented, as the puppet script, because of its pampering with the gifts of modern technology – special effects, I couldn’t see from beginning to end. Therefore, judging the film as an independent project.

So, “Godzilla”, as I see it.

Genre – fun fiction.

Plot. In 1954, director Ishiro Honda presented his creation to the court of the whole world: an adapted history of Godzilla – a prehistoric reptile that came out on the Japanese shores to eat human flesh. The lizard was dozing for a long time at the bottom of the sea, but (presumably) in 1945 was awakened by American nuclear bombardments. The film was a huge success, not to mention the number of sequels, spin-offs and the like. However, in 1998, US film studios, feeling apparently guilty of their ancestors for the numerous eaten Japanese and the desire to earn extra money, decided to incite the monster against the peaceful inhabitants of Manhattan. Only the French, with their atomic tests, were now to blame for everything, and they put the German Roland Emmerich at the head of this “disgrace. On the one hand, the film “externally looks like something on the ending of the “Jurassic Park 2 of 1997, on the other – it has a unique and very interesting start and a spectacular ending.

Atmosphere:

1. Humor. In my opinion the film is very funny, not rude and absolutely not vulgar, which happens very rarely in this genre.

2. Musical accompaniment is unobtrusive and melodious, which is a huge plus. I especially liked the melody at the end of the film: very touching, to match the ending.

3. The special effects made me very happy: nothing superfluous – modestly and with taste.

4. Translation (duplicated) is not bad in principle, but the voice of the actress, who voiced Audrey, is just disgusting to listen to – squeaky to impossibility. The polyphonic translation also has its drawbacks: the nickname of Victor Polotti (“The Beast) sounds very brutal.

The cast was laid out to its fullest, but, as always, I liked the funniest of all – the character of the actor Hank Azaria: very charismatic and charming. However, it should be recognized that the rest of them are not far behind: for example, the French “superman performed by Jean Renault, or the charming sergeant O’Neil (Doug Savant).

Verdict: the film is a real find, and I was very lucky to find it. The picture can be viewed countless times, and it still does not bother. Well done work.

“Patriot 4K” is not a historical blockbuster, although it is similar to such films as, for example, “Troy” and “Kingdom of Heaven”. But if there is almost all the action taking place on the battlefield, then the “Patriot UHD” – a movie more diverse, and it pays more attention to the main character. Mel Gibson as a father-avenger looks very cool, and moments when he comes across the hated soldiers who encroached on his family, he simply has no equal. It’s amazing how he manages to look so calmly in one frame, and in the next already with fury time to cut opponents to pieces! And the very image of Benjamin Martin is in fact an image of a kind and loving father who, without intervening in the war in his house, would have spent the rest of his life with his family in his plantation.

In general, the most interesting thing in the film is the struggle of the main character against the strength that took the life of his son and many more innocent people. And not the War of Independence itself, which, as it usually happens in movies, is shown with excessive pathos and talk about patriotism. Fortunately, Mel Gibson and the beautiful action have pushed all this into the background. “Patriot” turned out to be a little protracted, but spectacular and beautiful military insurgent. Personally, I thought there was less drama than an action movie. Because there are a lot of battles and all of them are very cruel – the scenes with an ax are simply incomparable, such in historical blockbusters you just will not see!

In addition to the original line of revenge and spectacular massacres, there are many scenic scenes in the film. This 4K movie, which is simply nice to watch, even when nothing really happens or there are political dialogues that are not interesting to everyone. And, of course, for Russia, American wars are not the same as the Great Patriotic War, in which Hollywood loves to extol American soldiers the most, although the whole world knows the truth about who owns the victory. But that’s not the point. Stamps in “Patriot” is not so much, beautiful kinds, bloody battles and excellent actors abound. Even if it’s a military drama, not an action movie, but in any case, the film deserves the closest attention. And do not need comparisons with the “Brave Heart”, the movie turned out not better, not worse, it’s just excellent.

Well, I did not expect anything from the ID sequel. But. I wanted it at least to meet 2016 movie standards. And it did not. The first movie felt like a B movie with a huge budget (props to Nostalgia Critic) and this one feels exactly the same. However, the first movie had some good portion of scale and CGI for 1996, and this one fails to meet the same. Movie did nothing to make me care, none of the characters feel like they were real people, and there’s also a lot of them, like really a lot. Some of them have less than 2 minutes of screen time and contribute nothing. Some of them died, and I had no reason to care about them, but it seems that no one does in this movie. Most of the time the biggest threat to human nation is not the alien race, but mostly stupid people. I really can’t talk seriously about this movie, so I’ll just sum it up fast. The story is worse than in a comic book movie, it really helps to stop caring. The characters are stereotypical, but they all share one thing – all their reactions are mostly comic or funny, like everything in this movie is a joke. As in the first movie, the coincidences were most implausible. The pacing was somewhat weird as well, beating down the aliens didn’t really felt so hard. Did I enjoy it in the movie theater? No, however, the CGI was good and there was one really good chase scene. The audience in the theater didn’t seen that entertained as well. Well, maybe it was targeted for a much younger audience. What can I say…Hollywood should stop making these type of movies for some time. It just doesn’t work any more.
