The film is based on a novel by Richard Matheson. Young playwright Richard Collier (Christopher Reeve) becomes obsessed with the image of an actress who rose to fame before World War I, and he travels back in time to find her. Reve is very serious and touching in his role as the lovesick playwright, and Jane Seymour is equally compelling as his beloved, the actress Alice McKenna.
