Film description

Honest and principled policeman Bon refuses to bow to his superiors and make a deal with his conscience, which is why his team is not taken on a special operation to capture a long-wanted criminal. But a gang of unidentified masked men show up on the scene and kill almost all the cops, including Bon’s boss. It turns out that former cop Ngo, who once showed great promise, is out of jail and now he wants to get even with everyone who screwed up his life.

4k movies reviews
There were several things that fueled interest in this film. First, it was the last directorial effort by Benny Chan, the director of ‘Who Am I?’ and ‘Unbreakable Target,’ who passed away last year. Secondly, there are real action stars in the form of Donnie Yen (Ip Man series, Hot Spot) and Nicholas Tse, who, despite being mostly a singer, has a number of good action films to his credit. In addition to the main actors, many other honored faces of Hong Kong cinema appear in the film, like Ben Lam or Simon Yam. And thirdly, rarely do police thrillers come out in China these days in their purest form, without an obsessive promotion of patriotism and morality.

What can we say about the film? Benny Chan has once again made a dramatic police action film, the main theme of which is the imperfection of the justice system and retribution for the evil done. Benny Chan’s characters, both heroes and villains, understand their duty differently, but follow it to the end. Nicholas Tse, in my opinion, deserves a nomination for best actor this year.

There are not many action scenes in the film, but they are intelligently spaced throughout the film’s considerable running time, and the viewer will see gunfights, explosions, and hand-to-hand combat. The shootouts are reminiscent of scenes from Michael Mann’s ‘The Clash’ and Alan Yuen’s ‘Firestorm’, which is pretty good. The hand-to-hand combat, given Donnie’s age, is done in economy mode, just like in ‘Hot Spot’ or ‘Special Personality’ a lot of MMA elements – throws, grabs and chokes, adding to the realism of the action. The final scene is shot and edited to the highest level.

As a result, Benny Chan’s farewell film turned out to be spectacular, tough, but honest, such as the best action movies of the golden era of Hong Kong cinema. There probably won’t be any more movies like that.
