4k movies reviews
The first “Shrek” became so popular that it immediately exalted its creators to heights they had never even dreamed of before. The cartoon won some very serious awards, but the producers were much more important that at the box office it has collected a huge amount of money. In addition, the finale of the story was such that the sequel just had to appear, and it just so happened that “Shrek 2” was even more interesting than the original!
Remember when Shrek and Fiona fell in love near the finale of the first cartoon? Well, now it’s all going logically forward. After getting married, our favorite characters went on a honeymoon and it seemed like there would be no limit to their happiness. But this is a fairy tale, here there must be adventures and a slight touch of drama, that’s why Shrek and Fiona are called by the princess’s parents who are very eager to know who their daughter has tied her fate to.
Arriving to the Kingdom, Shrek at once faces not the most pleasant attitude from his father-in-law who didn’t dream of such a groom for his beautiful daughter. But the ogre’s troubles don’t end there. The fairy godmother dreams of her beloved son, Prince Charming, becoming Fiona’s lawful wedded husband. To do so she must get rid of Shrek, whom no one wants to leave in the Kingdom. Shrek himself just dreams of peace and the arms of his beloved, and agrees to one particular adventure, around which the plot revolves.
Compared to the first part, the sequel was more mature and interesting. The plot introduced a villain who is not as monotonous as Lord Farquaad. And in general there is no one-sidedness, almost all new characters have their own hidden sides, and I am glad, because the cartoon can be watched not only by children, but also by adults, and not just once or twice.
Of the most interesting new characters, I would like to mention The Cat in Boots. In the original, he was voiced by Antonio Banderas. So it is clear why this mustachioed fellow has a strong Spanish coloring, and he is not easy to tame. By the way, Prince Charming also turned out to be quite a good-looking guy. He certainly has a narcissistic attitude, but the more he does all sorts of nastiness, the more attention is drawn to him.
The second part of “Shrek” was great, whichever way you look at it. The love from audiences and critics tells me that Andrew Adamson got it right at his best. That’s what I call a modern classic.
