“In & Out” (1997) is a comedy movie that tells the story of English teacher Howard Brackett, played by Kevin Kline. Howard’s life changes overnight when his former student Cameron Drake (Matt Dillon), who has become a famous actor, accidentally announces at the Oscars ceremony that Howard is gay. This unexpected public cameo causes quite a furor in the small conservative town where Howard lives. While everyone around him begins to reconsider their relationship with him, Howard himself is forced to sort out his feelings and realize who he really is. He finds support and understanding in the person of reporter Peter Mallow (Tom Selleck). The film is notable for its sharp humor, touching moments and excellent acting, raising important issues of tolerance, self-knowledge and self-acceptance.
