Unemployed actor Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman), desperate to get any role, changes into a woman’s dress and reincarnated as Dorothy, quickly gets a place in one of the popular TV series. His heroine is gaining more and more weight every day, her popularity with viewers is growing like on yeast. None of the crew does not guess that Dorothy is a man.
