Observations on the life of African-Americans in the urban ghetto on behalf of a quiet, inconspicuous man who works in a slaughterhouse to feed his family. The bloody work that gives the movie its name is the main theme of the film, but nevertheless the touching nostalgia for lost naivety, the glorification of the mediocrity of the characters, and the simplicity of their occupations are what make the movie unforgettable.
