I don’t know about anyone, but I really like sports dramas based on real events about American soccer and not only, in particular I like the movie ‘The Man Who Changed Everything’, which, however, my friend just fell asleep on. In the light of that I’m not surprised that ‘The Defender’ doesn’t do well at the box office – our people are just far from this sport and the problems that arise from it. So for me it is not an indicator.
In this film I saw not only a true story about how dangerous it is to play American soccer, but also the story of a man who has a vocation. The main character in the film, Dr. Bennet Omalu, has a talent for ‘talking’ to corpses and finding out from them the causes of death. Although you don’t have to put ‘talk’ in quotation marks, he did talk to them:
‘I need your help to tell the world, what’ve happened’ (c)
I am always attracted and fascinated by people who are sincerely committed, with high moral principles, when, despite all the difficulties and obstacles, a person does not give up his words. It is such people, in my opinion, who move the world forward, who will one day invent a cure for cancer and AIDS.
Of course, the movie talks a lot about the ideal American citizen, that the ideal citizen is not one who is American by birth, but one who stands up for the well-being and health of other citizens. Well, that’s a salute to Obama and the awards, a tribute to the current trend. I don’t see anything wrong with that in principle, as the underlying thought is correct, in my opinion.
Will finally woke up from hibernation and showed something really worthwhile. I think he’s a good dramatic actor. Loved him specifically for the dramas ‘7 Lives’ and ‘Chasing Happiness’. Here the role is of the same class. I think he deserves a nomination for the Globe but the nomination is the maximum in this case. He will not be a laureate. But I am very happy that he is back to serious dramas.
I found Embatha-Rho’s Gugu very beautiful, I admired her all the way. She played well. Not great, just good. Once again, I will say that the male (and not only) characters of Golden Globe nominees are very lucky to have understanding, supportive, motivating companions around.
Very memorable was Chief Bennett, played by Albert Brooks. A real fair chief, which I wish for all wage earners.
Alec Baldwin got fat, but not about that. He played neutral somehow. Although most likely something outstanding and was not required.
On the whole, it was an interesting story for me (can not recommend it to everyone, I guess that not fans of this genre will be bored). Learned something new for myself about the vicissitudes of American soccer and saw a motivator.
