4k movies reviews
Feelings that something is wrong with the “Star Frontier” begin to actively swirl in the soul about a minute after the start. The fact is that “Star Frontier” opens with so much explanatory text written in boring type that you can make a separate story out of it. So, in the courtyard of 2524, mankind has long mastered all sorts of colonies on Mars, formed some kind of alliances there, begins to slowly contact with representatives of aliens (the aliens ate the first human contactees, of course). On a sinful Earth, however, little has changed over the past 500 years: people drive pickup trucks, listen to techno from the beginning of the 2000s, and Bruce Willis drinks bitter in a smoky bar because of his missing acting career.

However, the bigger cause for concern is not the environment, the endless opening text, or the overall bad atmosphere. Star Frontier was directed by Edward Drake – the same guy who recently directed The Breach, where he also lured Bruce Willis by hook or by crook. Everyone knows how it turned out. This time, in addition to Bruce, who plays a kind of space cowboy, a once respected general, Frank Grillo and Costas Mandylor were lured into the project, which also caused irreparable damage to their careers.

The fact is that “Star Frontier” is, to put it mildly, a disaster. Perhaps conceptually and technically, it’s better than The Breach, but not by much. Let’s take a look at the futuristic Earth in 500 years. It looks like, at best, 2015 from Back to the Future 2, only spaceships, as they say, plow. Fashion has not changed, architecture has not changed, and despite the fact that there are some Q-bombs that can destroy millions of people, earthlings still use primitive firearms. As if this is not enough: the main character, played by Bruce Willis, the old General Ford, killed, attention, 70 million people … for which he received a shameful dismissal and lost his pension. Well, it is clear that the disgraced military hero is an archetype, but the “Star Frontier” is very ill-considered in this respect. Even for a simple military-fantasy action game, such mistakes are unforgivable, given that the place and time of the action, as well as the biography of the main character, are the most noticeable details of the script.

Perhaps the technical component makes up for the conceptual failure in part. For the fantastic trash, “Star Frontier” was filmed quite professionally: it is clear that the creators have invested in the implementation in terms of costumes and props. Unfortunately, it is the warhead that is lame. No one bothered to properly film the action scenes, but instead tries to convey the illusion of adventure through editing and weak CGI. As a result – half an hour of shootings, when watching which we cannot say who is shooting at whom, let alone think about the reason for the fight.

As for Willis, he also starred in worse projects. In general, with his career lately, there is something frankly strange: from time to time the actor appears in high-profile films and even makes efforts to keep the quality of acting afloat (for example, “Glass” and “Motherless Brooklyn”). However, most of his extreme work is at the bottom of the cinema. Be that as it may, if some Nicholas Cage, who got into debt, doesn’t give a damn about the quality of the film products in which he takes part, Bruce Willis looks rather angry at those people who force him to act in such a crap.

“Star Frontier” lasts only 90 minutes, but it seems like eternity. A sci-fi movie about a war on aliens looks incredibly predictable. It seems that not a single person who took part in the creation of the film was interested in its success: “Frontier” is rather meager in events, does not delve into the nuances, backstories of the characters and their emotional reactions.
