Caught in a difficult life situation, Beth arrives in Los Angeles to visit her older sister Ellie. On the spot, she discovers that her husband has left her, leaving her with three children, and their apartment complex is about to be demolished and a new house has yet to be found. Deciding to talk to her sister alone, Ellie sends the kids out for pizza. On their way back, they experience an earthquake, a sinkhole forms in the parking lot, and the older Danny finds an ancient mysterious volume and records there. Out of curiosity, after opening the book and listening to the records, the boy unleashes evil forces that immediately possess his mother and will now try to drag everyone present, and especially the children, to hell.
4k movies reviews
“Evil Dead Rise” is not only what fans of the franchise expect, but fans of the horror genre in general.
I love these pictures, because each film has its own structure, characters and is inventive in its own way, it is rare to call a franchise where the subsequent part does not become something second-rate, parasitic on the original, but is a great continuation of the series.
Lee Cronin is a little-known director, whose filmography includes one horror film “The Other”, before the release of the first shots and the full trailer I was a little skeptical about his future work, but remembering the masterpiece shot by Federico Alvarez (“Evil Dead: The Black Book”), and it was his debut picture, I had hopes for a good horror film. Ended up with the best horror film of the year (so far), let’s break down the pros and cons in more detail.
? The fattest pluses are the actors. Alyssa Sutherland (Ellie) did a 101% job. The transformation from mother to demon came out truly very frightening, real. She is the key to the success of the picture, a completely non-trivial antagonist. Lilly Sullivan (Beth), who played the mother’s sister, will be a memorable character in the franchise in the future, as she was with Ash and Mia in the previous films. And to my surprise, the children were not annoying, you believe their fear and panic, which is rare for this genre.
Next, I want to mention the hand of the director, because every shot is very juicy, beautiful, clever. The sound holds the bar, and the title is one of the best I have seen in my life, and I have seen many.
Lastly, I would like to mention the first and third acts, everything is so cool that words can’t express, just emotions and the pulse is under 120.
But why do we all go to the movies like this? Yes, for the bloody and brutal scenes, here I have a lot to praise and scold.
I hasten to reassure you, the picture is daring, everything is in place, but now we will smoothly move on to the minuses.
? For me, the favorite of the franchise is still the 2013 film, because that is where the creators completely moved away from humor and presented an overly crude and intimidating picture. Here there is not enough darker tone, it is, the first hour is great, but by the middle of the wounding with scissors or knives is already becoming commonplace, because all this has already been seen, and such films want to go beyond the usual, but the scene with the grater was made very skillfully, although it should have lengthened the moment. That is the problem, everything is very fast, let’s remember the remake again, the scenes are fast and long and you can’t even finish watching them, unfortunately, there is no such thing here. That’s the end of the minuses, we can move on to the results.
?Verdict. Lee Cronin and the entire team have presented a competent horror film that may not necessarily surprise the avid viewer, but will definitely leave fans of the genre satisfied. COME GET SOME!
