When in 2017 director Patrick Hughes released his film “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” on the screens, it was immediately clear that this was not just another comedy thriller, but a real bomb! Filmed for some $ 30 million, the action-adventure story turned out to be a box office hit of the season, paid off its production budget several times and showed skeptics that Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson could still set the heat in more than sterile blockbusters from Marvel. And now, four years after the original, a sequel appeared at the box office, which turned out to be really in place. So get ready for an hour and a half non-stop marathon, during which you will definitely not get bored!
So, the plot of “The Bodyguard of the Killer’s Wife” again refers us to the poor fellow Michael Bryce (Reynolds), who relatively recently experienced just crazy adventures together with the professional killer Darius Kincaid (Jackson), and now he just needs to take it and relax, forget about the shootings and secret missions. And since Bryce still no longer has a specialized license, fate itself sent him on vacation to put his thoughts in order. But even on indefinite leave, our hero is found. And the funny thing is that the same Sonia (Salma Hayek), the hitman’s wife, who critically needs help to save her husband from the clutches of enemies, is pulling him out of hibernation. It would seem that what else could be worse, but further it will definitely be more dynamic, dangerous and funnier.
Embarking on another unplanned mission, Bryce, Sonya and Kincaid find themselves embroiled in a very dangerous international investigation. The thing is that one very extraordinary, eccentric and unpredictable person decided to bring the whole of Europe to his knees, and then, quite possibly, the whole world. And he possesses very serious technologies that must be disconnected from the Network at all costs. As you might guess, only our cheerful trinity can help in such a difficult matter, and they cannot refuse the formidable agent Bobby O’Neill (Frank Grillo) in this matter.
Of course, filming the sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard was completely optional, but many viewers, myself included, wanted to know what happened to our characters next. Well, they couldn’t just go and retire – it’s not in their nature … Fortunately, the director thought the same way as we do, and the sequel still appeared on the screens. The sparkling chemistry between the main characters has not disappeared anywhere, the plot does not stand still, and the humor continues to remain as rich and relevant as before.
The action here is just a fairy tale, although the film did not cost like most modern blockbusters. The director knows how to work with staging cool scenes, and he was perfectly helped by specialists who know their business for sure. The scenes with our dear Zhiguli are worth seeing. In general, there is no respite, the plot tears and rushes, drives forward and you and I need to keep up with it.
It was not a problem here that Salma Hayek diluted the killer couple of Reynolds and Jackson with her appearance. After all, she is just a charm, a delight for men’s, and not only, eyes. In the last part, her role was essentially limited to a cameo, but this time she was given much more screen time, and it is simply pleasant to watch her. Hayek is not only a pretty pretty lady over whom age does not control, but she is also a very good actress who looks organically in both drama and comedy.
In the end, I want to say that “The Bodyguard of the Killer’s Wife” is a really cool non-stop action-adventure comedy and cheers up one or two times. This is easy to verify. So if you have a desire to have a great time, then this film is definitely worth taking into account. It won’t be boring, it’s a fact!
