Attention, please. I am writing this review because, for reasons I do not understand, the third part of “The Godfather” seems to have been forgotten. This is evidenced by the evaluation, which clearly does not correspond to this masterpiece, and a very small number of reviews, not only on Kinopoisk, but also in society in general. Praising the great first two parts of the trilogy, people for some reason leave an orphan denouement. I will try, to prove that the entire ‘Godfather’ trilogy is a complete and magnificently unified saga.
– Do you, Michael, promise to stay true to the traditions of this noble order, with special care for the poor, the needy and the sick?

The beginning of the film takes us back to the events of the second episode, when Michael Corleone gives the order to kill his brother. And already in the first episodes of the third installment, goosebumps begin to run down your spine. Nostalgia for the beloved gangster saga, and the tragic and sensitive music immerses us in the latest journey through the most notorious crime family, the Corleone family. The entire Godfather trilogy is saturated, with comparisons and parallels. The beginning of the third part, I would say, serves as a sort of reference, to the beginning of the first. The lavish celebration, and the celebration of Don Corleone, and the whole family, personally reminded me immediately of Connie’s wedding of the first part. And Michael, like his father, accepted congratulations in his office. Yes only, a lot has changed, Michael’s plans are aimed at legalizing his business, and getting his family out of a life of crime.

We would have to say that in the last part, the focus is on the relationships between the Corleone family members, and while the beginning does not promise us a bloodbath, as time passes, we realize that the picture is just as violent and crime-ridden as the first and second episodes. But about that a little later. We should note a very important thing. New characters appear in the film, played by very interesting actors, but I think there is not a big hitch. And maybe for many (but not for me) this is a pushover. I know, there are opinions that the casting for the third part is poor. The characters aren’t vivid and the actors aren’t flashy. But if at first Vinnie (Sonny’s son), brilliantly played by Andy Garcia, seems too plain and frivolous, and one wonders what he’s doing in this harsh criminal world? But by the minute, his character is evolving, not without the help of the Godfather’s wise counsel.

– No, you are my father, but I want nothing to do with your business. (Anthony Corleone, Michael’s son).
Tony and Mary are Michael’s children, played by Frank D’Ambrosio, who is unfamiliar to me, and everyone knows, the daughter of the great Francis Ford Copolla, Sofia. If the role of the son cannot be called great, and that is why I can’t say anything but “not bad” about Frank’s performance. Sofia left a pleasant impression, she was great, and you can’t call her an experienced actress. The Don Altobello character is very flamboyant, and it was interesting to watch. I can’t say the same for Joe Mantegna’s good actor character, Joey Zaza. Unfortunately, he failed to deliver a serious and statuesque portrayal of his character, and even looked comical at times. Connie and Kay were played by the wonderful actresses we know from previous episodes, and their acting is still a delight. But the figure of Tom Hagan’s son, on the other hand, was rather insignificant, and from that not noticeable. Although I will admit to you, it was Tom Hagan that I missed here, as he is one of my favorite characters in the trilogy.

In terms of character relationships, in my opinion, the episodes of Part 3 were better and more exciting. What about the intrigue in the romance between Vincent and Mary or the same, distant yet inseparable Michael and Kay. All the plot threads are intertwined, and with every moment spent watching it, the heart starts beating even harder. Don Michael Corleone’s order for Vinnie to carry out is brutal, but right. Vincent, who is the Godfather without five seconds, must choose between his family’s business, and his personal life. Things change, a daughter more loving, than a son, to her father, loses all dreams for the future and blames it on her father. At the time, the plot against the Corleone family escalates into the bloodbath I mentioned at the beginning of my review, one person after another dies, and the denouement is near, you begin to realize that something tragic is going to happen.

– Yes. (Vincent)
– Are you going to keep me safe? (Mary)
– From now on, yes. I promise. You’re safe with me. (Vincent)
The denouement, the events that take place at the opera, in Sicily, where Michael’s son was performing, was great! It’s the peak of everything! Just a little more and my heart would pop out. The nervous tension, and the danger that enveloped Michael. All of the endings in the three parts were different, but perhaps the most emotional and thrilling was at the end of the third episode. One begins to wonder how it will end and who will get hurt, all the while believing the best. I compare it to the feelings I had when I watched the great saga “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith”, because there, too, everyone knew in advance that tragedy would happen, but to the end I wanted to believe in the best… There is no justice. Last Scene. The desolate street of a Sicilian village, sad music plays, and I have tears and seas of emotion!
Francis Ford Copolla’s masterpiece, the “Godfather” trilogy is above, of all grades and ratings, it is above cinematography. After all, first of all – it is a story long in life, a story that will never be forgotten!
