Every year, various series and films are released on large and small screens, the main purpose of which is to praise the heroism of certain people and at the same time work as a kind of agitation. This is especially common with war films that glorify the victories of American soldiers, smooth over their defeats, and at the same time appeal to the patriotic urges in the depths of every American’s soul. This year this function is performed by this film directed by Rod Lurie.

The events of this tape are developing in October 2009. For three years now, the US Army has established several roadblocks in northern Afghanistan to prevent the smuggling of weapons and the movement of Taliban fighters from Pakistan. The Keating outpost located in the Gindikush mountains comes under fire from the Taliban. The American military has to engage in unequal combat with superior opponents and in an unfavorable defensive position.

The first thing to say about the story told on the screen is based on real events. If usually such a phrase sounds like some kind of enticement for the audience, then in this case it is one hundred percent true. The authors of this tape recruited several survivors of the aforementioned events to write the script and kept them as consultants for the creation of the tape.

Perhaps it is the above that allows us to perceive the story told on the screen not as another entertainment for the audience, but as an honest and truthful story as much as possible. Starting with dialogues and ending with the actual fighting. The aforementioned is also manifested in the fact that this film is conventionally divided into two separate components. When the first half of the tape is one continuous chatter with the disclosure of the characters of the main characters and an excessive abundance of dialogues, and direct hostilities begin just after an hour’s timing.

The direction of Rod Luri is structured in a similar way. As if following the principle of Sam Mendes’ ‘Marines’, the director of this tape, Rod Lurie, seems to be mocking the viewer for the first half of the tape. As if deliberately turning the chatter level to the max. Which has a positive effect on a realistic atmosphere, but a healthy one slows down the picture. However, as soon as the tape crosses the clock line, the picture turns into the most realistic, brutal and honest military action movie in the best traditions of ’13 soldiers of Benghazi’ and ‘Black Hawk Down’.

The actors played well. Scott Eastwood again got used to the image of the military and again dissolved in it. As if he himself had served several years in the army. I was pleasantly surprised by Caleb Landry Jones, who revealed himself in my eyes from an extremely unexpected side. Orlando Bloom, who is rarely filmed, who, unfortunately, is very small in this film, willingly pleased me.
