Four years after the war, Violet Evergarden a young woman with prosthetic arms works as a âhuman letter writerâ: she helps people put their feelings into words and write letters to those they love. The war took Major Gilbert from her the only person who treated her like a human being and she still canât let him go. One day, an old letter with no addressee is found in the post officeâs storage room, and Gilbertâs brother informs her that the major is alive.
This is the storyâs climax quiet, without unnecessary words, yet with such breathtaking visuals from Kyoto Animation that it takes your breath away. The film was shot in part following the tragic 2019 studio fire that claimed the lives of more than thirty employees and you can feel that in every frame.
