Film description

They are here… At first they seem ghostly, playing hide-and-seek in the Freelings’ country house. But then it gets really scary! The clouds thicken, the reanimated trees attack, and little Carol Ann Freeling is sucked into a spectral void. And while her family struggles with a string of nightmares and tries to save the girl, somewhere in the neighborhood, something lurks…

4k movies reviews
Poltergeist is a classic, filmed in 1982 brought a lot into the horror world with its unique and original plot, and even raised that half of horror, which without special monsters, maniacs and dismemberment holds on to horror, atmosphere and suspense.

The first, and not insignificant, is in the staging. It doesn’t matter whether Spielberg or Hooper directed this film, it doesn’t matter whose name is on the title credits, what matters is the stylistics and professionalism with which the film is presented in general. In my opinion, nothing could be more original than the USA anthem and the blurry outlines of a closely shot television set.

The music is in keeping with the American horror movies of the 80’s, in the best tradition – the strained melodies, the lingering howls, the eerie instrumental passages and the sharp high notes, all of it gives the atmosphere in all the movie scenes.

The tree scene is creepy at all! Looking at the tree before, I was expecting something like that, but so spectacular and realistic! You would like to scream with horror, but it takes your breath away and your heart is pounding out of your chest. One of the most horrifying moments in the movie, and in the whole cinema this scene should take pride of place!

The scene of the poltergeist itself, observed by the experts, is generally delightful and shocking! This scene is watchable with your mouth open. No demons and monsters are not comparable to the invisible horror of Poltergeist and what he does in the room. It is unimaginably scary!

Dialogue. The dialogues in the film are not few, and they are all spoken in an interesting, informative and good way. Many of the conversations and phrases are perfectly thought out, some are funny, others are absorbing in their pithiness, others are just pleasant and interesting to listen to, like the stories of the head of these… ‘Ghostbusters’ or something. The speech is well put, the dialogues are interesting. The film is quite enjoyable to listen to.

The characters in the film are much more than vivid, the whole family, their neighbor, the ‘ghost hunter’ team are extremely vivid, and played very talented. The images are very memorable, sticking in your memory with the same creepy edge, the blade of which permeates the whole film with atmosphere and suspense. And that old Psychic is just something! A highlight of the film, such an image, such a voice, an extremely funny character. The character is absolutely admirable and just like a medal for her courage, heroism, and help.

I really like the realism of the characters’ behavior and emotions, everything looks extremely logical and realistic, very well impressed. The actors put their heart and soul into their images and acting, the eldest daughter screaming in the ending is especially memorable, you haven’t heard her scream like that since Hitchcock’s Psycho and you won’t hear it anywhere else.

The scene with the bright lights with the pathos music is extremely reminiscent of the appearance of the cenobites in Hellraiser 1 and 2, by the way. Of course, it’s not as spectacular and there are no such bogeymen, but the scene is really worthwhile and scary, because it’s tense and mysterious – anticipation is the main key here, we’re waiting what will happen THERE, what will happen next, will the plan succeed. What a great script move with the rope, what a strong scene with the kiss, how much emotion in the ‘who will go’ argument, even your tongue will get tired of listing all the delightful episodes of the film! This movie deserves to be the best of the best!

The slime and tentacles are just as impressive, the great trick with the current and the electric voltage – wow respect! And the smoky growling demon was even scarier than the ‘head’ that almost gave me a heart attack! Such scary monsters you will not see anywhere else! One is scarier than the other, each following scene is scarier than the previous one, and each one is amazing and brilliant, both by idea and by its visual realization!

I often like to judge a film by its plot, as if it were a story. Take away the actors’ faces, and their acting, superimpose everything on a textual description, forget all the visual images replacing them with text. And this movie is the only one that is impossible to write! It’s just the creepiest story with the scariest monsters and powerful effects. If the film were a story it would lose 70% of its expressiveness, this is a horror film to watch! Visually, the film is so creepy that it deserves a clear R in the rating!

‘Poltergeist’ has laid down so many clichés that individual elements have begun to be stamped all over the place, and always lousy and of poor quality. And only here you can feel the real atmosphere of horror and get into the spirit of suspense with the highest tension! Take care of your heart, prepare some valerian and valocordine, this film is capable of making you faint with horror!

The tentacle jaws are just as gorgeous and awesome as the other effects in the film. The quality is comparable only to L. Fulci’s flawless films. American cinema since 1982 hasn’t made anything scarier or more spectacular in terms of monsters and visual horror effects. (Except for Poltergeist 2.)

A few words about the ending – although it is generally predictable, it is only because it set a similar cliché to other similar films. It is very strong and spectacular in its visual effects and really powerful.

As a result, there’s not much to say, everything is described above. This is one of the scariest movies in the history of cinema, the effects of Poltergeist are the envy of all subsequent horror movies. And the scariest thing is that this movie scared the hell out of me right now in 2008, in modern times, at my age! It almost gave me a heart attack! It terrified me, shocked me, and now it has become one of my favorite, most revered, and scariest movies!
