At 3:15 pm, a terrible train crash occurs. Of the 132 passengers, only one survives. David Dunn didn’t just survive in the middle of a hell of iron and fire – he didn’t get a single scratch. And only one person on earth knows the reason for this miracle – Elijah Price, nicknamed “Mr. Glass”, whose bones can break even from a slight external effort.

Having become the most sought-after director in Hollywood after the huge box-office success of the mystical thriller The Sixth Sense, M. Night Shyamalan could choose all the different projects he wanted. But since he was not just a director, but also a screenwriter, he first began to compose his original project, which acquired the features of “Invincible” and was released in 2000, while the glory of “The Sixth Sense” had not yet fizzled out. Of course, the film turned out to be not as exciting as the ghost story, but Shyamalan still managed to surprise us.

The story tells us about David Dunn, who seems to be a simple security guard at the local stadium, but he has one unique feature. David has never been injured, he has not been in the hospital and, in general, his medical card is as clean as the appearance of a baby. The hero himself does not see anything unusual in this, but someone unknown came out on his trail, who is firmly convinced that Mr. Dunn belongs to the face of superheroes. And if David is nudged, he can save a lot of lives.

This unknown turns out to be Elijah Price, who from birth suffers from special fragility of bones, which is why he can be called Mr. Glass. Price always knew that since he personifies the very concept of helplessness, it means that there is a person in the world who possesses unprecedented strength and endurance, but he himself does not know about it. Having met Dunn, Price starts a game that David will obviously not like, but he cannot ignore the actions of the disabled person.

I have only one complaint about Shyamalan’s film. It’s too slow, much more than Sixth Sense. The plot barely creeps to the beginning of something interesting, and if you do not have the strength and your eyes close, then you can be sure that while watching you will definitely fall asleep. But at the same time, “Invincible” has interesting plot twists and great acting. The same Bruce Willis played his last interesting dramatic roles with Shyamalan.

However, there is no special action here, despite the theme of comics and invincible heroes. Shyamalan just wanted to show what miracles can be in reality, and they differ from the special effects of recent times, when all natural is replaced by outright fiction. The director did the right thing, even if he didn’t really manage to adjust the pace and dynamics of his production.

Samuel L. Jackson revealed a very interesting character in ‘Invincible’. Usually he plays active people with a wide range of vocabulary, but in Shyamalan he suddenly became quiet and acts first of all through his refined intellect, which is combined with an innate cunning and a desire to leave something unexpected in himself. Jackson plays thin, balanced and powerful. It has been a long time since we saw him so balanced and at the same time creepy.

Bruce Willis also plays calmly, but I will not say that he has detached himself from the whole world. His David Dunn is a man with a difficult attitude towards life, difficult experiences and family problems. It’s hard to see a real superhero in him, but Shyamalan will leave us enough time to get to know David and understand why he became a cog in Price’s hands and what their final round in this film will be like.

“Invincible” did not become what the “Sixth Sense” was, but still this story is capable of arousing interest. The main thing is to stock up on coffee and at the time of viewing it is in a vigorous state. In this case, the film can be evaluated in the way that Shyamalan wishes.
