Film description

The story of the formation of a hero in a bat mask. In his youth, Bruce Wayne fills bump after bump in the fight against crime, while building a working relationship with detective James Gordon. The latter, by the way, not only plays the usual role of an honest cop, but also lives a personal life, which includes a romantic affection for work colleague Sarah Essen. Meanwhile, Selina Kyle begins to change her life, starting directly with her own personality.

4k movies reviews
Over the years, we have seen many reincarnations of the Dark Knight in computer games, comics, films, etc. But it was Batman: Year One that became the main event for fans and the brainchild of Bob Kane (the creator of Batman).

First of all, it should be said that this film (namely a film, because such a work is roughly called a cartoon) is an adaptation of the comic book of the same name by the talented comic book artist Frank Miller. Without this comic, there would be no ‘Dark Knight’ by Christopher Nolan, since Nolan was inspired by this comic. But now a little about the plot. Another story about Bruce Wayne, who returned to Gotham after 12 years of wandering. Meanwhile, James Gordon arrives in the city with his pregnant wife. And Gotham became even darker and more terrible: corrupt cops, homeless people, teenage prostitutes, etc. It would seem that there is no hope of salvation, and suddenly … Batman was born …

The story is more like not a blockbuster, but a stylish crime thriller, in which the characters are very, very realistic and human. I especially want to mention Lieutenant Gordon. Here James is presented as a loving husband, father-to-be, and a man of principle. But unfortunately, there are many vile people everywhere who keep Gordon’s hands tied. Batman, oddly enough, sometimes fades into the background, but only because Jim’s struggle with the corruption and protection of his wife is much more important. But it should be noted that the animated Batman makes the ‘Christianbale’ rodent in the lung (well, Gary Oldman in the role of Gordon and the ‘Knight’, in ‘Inception’ greatly simplified his character). Both have their own problems, but the common goal is to restore justice. There are many villains here and they are all either gangsters or policemen. The main villain as such does not exist, unless the entire criminal structure of Gotham is presented as an antigonist. I want to compare the relationship of the characters with such films as ‘The Godfather’ or ‘The Road to Damnation’ because of the drama of the characters.

The direction is very dark and atmospheric (it feels like Zach Snyder or David Fincher could have directed it). The action is violent and driving (without any Batmobiles and gadgets for millions of dollars). The music is exactly the same as the direction. Well, the film itself is very well drawn, unlike Batman: Under the Red Hood or Mask of Phantasm.

It looks like DC Animation’s ‘First Year’ will be the masterpiece of all the Avengers animated films.
