4k movies reviews
‘Today’s super-action films require almost no imagination or talent from actors and directors. You need millions of dollars, a crowd of extras, complicated effects and scenery,” Chaplin said of super-action films. Over the years, little has changed – now it is fashionable to make brainless spectacular films in which incomparable heroes fighting incomparable villains.

That’s why it’s so pleasant these days to stick a disc of ’48 Hours’ in your player and enjoy this classic comedy action film, as far removed from modern blockbusters as it is superior to them in every way.

48 Hour is a benchmark of the genre, the perfect action comedy, the one that laid the foundation of the buddy movie, a movie about two polar opposite opposite characters, forced to work together. It’s hard to calculate how many successful and unsuccessful sequels this movie spawned – until now the black/white partner is still the leading theme in American action movies, but this one is still the first and incomparable one.

At the heart of the simple plot are two random partners, a white man and a black man. The white one is a principled cop, the black one a charming crook. The white one is the silent one, the black one is the chatterbox. White solves everything by force, black by brains and cunning. At first they hate each other, but in the course of the action they become best friends and together they chase a crazy bandit. All this with a huge amount of chases, shootouts, fights, altercations and, of course, humor. Eddie Murphy is responsible for the humor in ’48 Hours’. For him, the film was his debut and at the same time a grand breakthrough from the beginning of his career. Murphy as a con man is unparalleled – he has all the typical traits that made Beverly Hills Policeman and The Honourable Gentleman true masterpieces – he is canny, dodgy, talkative, charming, bouncy, his horse smile, his quacky laugh, his dapper suit and his endless supply of wit made him a worldwide favorite, and the real star of 48 Hours. Here Murphy has found one of the most successful and most striking portrayals of his career. The acting is terrific!

And the rock-like Nick Noltey is good, too. Good with his Nordic toughness, fearlessness, integrity, toughness. This cold North Stone, a stranger, it seems, to any feelings, brutal and implacable, so shades Eddie Murphy, that the duet turns out just explosive – long live contrasts! And what a voice he has! The moment you hear his creaky, harsh bass, you immediately realize – this will never back down. In the film in general, a perfect selection of actors!

Classic in all its glory. In spite of its considerable age and the thousands of clones imitated by Hollywood, ’48 Hours’ is surprisingly fresh and entertaining to watch.
