John Mercer (John Wayne) meets hunting season on Tanganyika. Along with a dozen companions, Mercer captures animals for zoos around the world. He works for a young girl named Brandy, the daughter of his former employer who died on a hunting trip. The season starts badly: hunter Bill Waugh, nicknamed The Indian, is injured by a rhino. The Indian’s place in the group is taken by a young Frenchman who happens to have the same blood type and becomes a donor for a transfusion. There is another newcomer to the team: a young Italian photographer, Serafina D’Alessandro, nicknamed Dallas, sent by the zoo of the city of Basel. Mercer hates women after being abandoned by his fiancée, who disliked life in the area; he is displeased by the appearance of this unexpected guest. However, he submits to the opinion of his companions, who suggest that he keep her on the team…
