Film description

Baron Frankenstein is obsessed with the idea of world domination, for which he sculpts “ideal” men and women, subordinate only to his power, from the materials at hand, and who, having copulated, would give the offspring of a new formation – born slaves of Frankenstein. He’s all right with the girl, but there is a problem with the man – he needs a suitable head of a “real male” so that he would fall in love with an ideal woman at first sight and immediately crawl into bed with her … Deciding to find a similar specimen at the local a brothel, Frankenstein and his assistant Otto beheaded the wrong guy by mistake – a young man preparing to become a monk …

4k movies reviews
The first film from the symbolic dilogy of Paul Morrissey. The same actors, the same obscene (but for some reason no less ‘catchy’) interpretation of Mary Shelley’s immortal work.

Victor Frankenstein (Udo Kir), the classicist ideal of a learned man who overcomes the traditional prohibitions of Mother Nature with the power of his mind, is here placed in the Smenovekhov realities of the early twentieth century. Being long, but not very happy, married to his sister and being the father of two pretty little children, the baron is filled with contempt for the people of the working-class class and is obsessed with the idea of creating a new race of slaves who would obey only him unquestioningly. To this end, he collects from the ‘ideal’, according to his definition, two human individuals, which ultimately should initiate a new race. He finds the ‘Female’ almost without difficulty, but he has to tinker with the head of the Male – the baron wants him to have a classic Greek profile, but the trouble is that the owners of the perfect nose in the endless expanses of the Serbian Lebensraum are somehow sparse. .. But the most important thing is that the future male must justify his mission and become a reliable inseminator of the passion entrusted to him. After consulting with his Ãœber-assistant Otto, the baron comes to the conclusion that such men live in only one place – a local brothel, which is inhabited mainly by old and terrible hags. However, by an unfortunate accident, the killer doctors decapitate (already because of this scene the film is worth watching) a guy (Serjan Zelenovich), who was going to get a monk haircut and ended up in a brothel only at the whim of his friend (Joe Dalessandro). The latter, thanks to the efforts of the baroness, who was weak on the front, soon becomes a servant in the castle and, seeing his murdered friend in Frankenstein’s brainchild, tries to destroy all the insidious plans of the wicked baron …

Perhaps the main advantages of this cinematic sketch are that the blood flows like a river here, and the intestines fall out in kilograms. Initially, the film was released in 3D, which is doubly pleasant: you put on glasses and they immediately poke a famous organ into your whole sweaty face … heat. Despite this, the last scene of Male Sasha’s suicide was done with a bang. And Udo Kir, with replaying his death, plugged Jim Carrey from the movie ‘Mask’ far behind his belt. But the most important thing here is, of course, the kids …

Be that as it may, what Warhol and Morrissey succeeds in beyond praise is the depiction of vice. The vice is sophisticated, frightening, and at the same time almost ordinary: deliberately emphasized incestuousness, which appears in almost every scene of the film narration (from the fact of the baron’s marriage to putting the children in one bed), the oppressive impotence of Frankenstein, who can fall in love with a woman only after rummaging through her in the guts, sadistic inclinations of children and, finally, the inescapable voluptuousness of each and every one in this film … Actually, the film itself is another invective addressed to modern society. I remember Douglas Copeland once wrote:

‘It began to seem to me that in this world people, looking at the armless Venus de Milo, can dream of having sex with a cripple, and they also, in a Pharisaic way, attach a fig leaf to a statue of David, having previously broken off his penis for a souvenir.’
