4k movies reviews
Appearing exactly to celebrate Halloween 1978, the escaped patient of a psychiatric hospital, Michael Myers, turned into the real curse of the small town of Haddonfield, forcing its local residents to lose their peace once and for all. With a silent persistence harassing the innocent high school girlfriends Laurie Strode to the other world, Myers gradually approached the object of his perverted dreams, in order to end what he began fifteen years ago, stabbing as many as eight blows into the body of his older sister. And despite the fact that Michael was actually an ordinary person of flesh and blood, it was practically impossible to kill him. They stabbed him with a knife, repeatedly shot him and even burned him alive, but he kept returning to remind us that true evil is in no hurry to go to the grave while he has unfinished business. Director John Carpenter and his followers were in no hurry to explain the essence of such an amazing resilience of Myers, limiting themselves mainly to the phrases of Dr. Loomis that there was nothing human left in Michael’s psyche, but the fans of the series were frankly all the same for what reasons their favorite was returning. Most importantly, he is still angry with the surviving members of his family and goes ahead for his goal. And when the creators decided to take Jamie Lee Curtis out of the story behind the scenes, Laurie Strode in the unchanged performance of Jamie Lee Curtis quickly found a replacement in the form of the heroine’s daughter, and, accordingly, the niece of Michael Myers, after which “Halloween” received the legal right to a sequel, which was completely optional. but nevertheless born. The fourth film in the franchise, after a short absence from Michael Myers himself, returned him to the screens again, and although the story frankly lacked the elegance of Carpenter’s original work, the audience accepted her and somewhere even fell in love, since she again gave them a meeting with the one whom they were so eager to see. And as the film’s budget was again covered by the box office, Mustafa Akkad was eager to release a fifth film, also known as Michael Myers’ Revenge.

So, the plot of the film unfolds a year after Michael Myers recovered from a coma and went to his hometown to harass his little niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris). However, no matter how hard the maniac tried, he failed to fulfill his plans, since his old friend from the psychiatric clinic, Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Plaisance), again intervened in the situation, for whom it was a matter of honor to stop his ill-fated patient, in which the good was completely lost … And nevertheless, despite the fact that Michael’s main victim escaped a bloody fate, the actions of the maniac had their irreparable consequences. Not only did he leave behind a long bloody trail of many corpses, he also brought Jamie to a hospital bed, quite seriously disturbing her delicate psyche. So the unfortunate girl had to be observed in the clinic for a whole year, banishing anxiety and cruelty from herself, but instead of finally recovering, Jamie continues to face visions that indicate that, contrary to the past statements of Dr. Loomis, Michael Myers is still alive and preparing strike again. And as it is not difficult to guess, Jamie’s warnings turn out to be true and her deadly uncle reappears on the streets to finally get rid of her daughter Laurie Strode and, along the way, send to the other world those who will interfere with him or will simply be under a hot hand.

Returning to the gloomy world of Michael Myers, where blood becomes more and more every year, and corpses are no longer so easy to hide in the morgue, the creators were not going to radically change the mood of the subsequent parts of the franchise after the departure of John Carpenter, but it must be admitted that “Halloween 5” turned out more intense and atmospheric than the previous film. And most likely, the director Dominique Autenin-Girard should be thanked for this. Far from being the most famous, but quite a worthy director, as far as possible, he began to resurrect the covenants of the very first parts of the franchise, so that the audience really cares about what is happening on the screen and who to worry about. Most of the characters who appear in the frame affect the plot in the most direct way, and do not act on the side of extras, who are completely uninteresting to watch. The director deliberately sets aside enough time for his characters so that they have time to properly reveal themselves, and is glad that the plot again found a place for Rachel, played by Ellie Cornell, since she played a rather significant role in the previous part, and since Michael Myers is not her killed, it would be strange if she was taken out of history by some hastily thrown explanation. And so that Rachel did not have to be bored and a bloody orgy happened around her again, the creators attributed her friends in the person of a little extravagant Tina, a tough guy named Mike, the seller of Spitz and Samantha. Each of the characters has its own characteristics, they arouse interest and their actions are actually interesting to watch, despite the fact that in your heart you understand the fact that not everyone will survive in “Michael Myers’ Revenge”, and if the leading characters still have some the chances are that their friends do not have as many options for survival as they would like. But do not forget that this is a slasher, which means that with each subsequent part of the corpses there should be more and more.

With all due respect to Rachel and her colorful comrades, “Halloween 5” primarily entices with the confrontation between Jamie, Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis, who are not ready to compromise and continue to fight in spite of everything, including a sense of proportion and common sense. I would especially like to highlight the game of Daniel Harris, which was one of the few rays of light in the last part, and we can safely say that it remains so in this film. Only this time she is not just a cute, frightened girl, but also a psychiatric patient with a syndrome that can cause serious anxiety and at the same time gives trump cards in the fight against Myers, who continues to act like a killing machine and, with the exception of a couple of strange moments, not bribes for sentiment. In addition, it is necessary to notice the characteristic changes in the behavior of our old friend, Sam Loomis, in the unchanged performance of Donald Plazance. The eternal opponent of Myers gradually turned into an obsessed elderly man, for whom the capture and murder of a maniac became the meaning of life. Of course, this looks a little sad, and nevertheless, all the past parts of the franchise, with the exception of “Season of the Witches”, led us to a similar development of events.
