On July 18, 1981, Ed and Lorraine Warren attended the exorcism of little David Glatzel. The priest and the boy’s family tried unsuccessfully to exorcise the evil entity, Ed suffered a heart attack, and then Arnie – the boyfriend of David’s older sister – offered his soul to the demon.
Some time later, Arnie kills his landlord and then says that he does not remember what happened. For the first time in US history, a murder suspect claims to have been possessed by a demon, and now the guy’s fate depends on whether the Warrens can find evidence of this.
4k movies reviews
I can safely refer myself to the big and loyal fans of Wang’s work and especially the “Conjuring” franchise. The first two films are some of my favorite horror films and I perceive them as much more than ordinary horror films. The Conjuring is a real multicomponent on-screen novel with everything: suspense, detective story, love, philosophy, and a cool horror story of course. Since the first two films are masterpieces, the demand and expectations for the third were very high. It was straining that Van left the director’s chair, and “Astral 4” was a complete slag, which instilled fears. But the film came out and I can say that it is not a bit inferior to the first two! And the detective line is perhaps even more interesting. I only agree that there are a little less really scary moments, on the other hand, the film does not take it.
In the third part, the Warren couple are no longer faced with demons, as in previous films. This time they are dealing with black magic. It’s great that there is no self-repetition and parasitism in the past parts. Only nice Easter eggs, like a bouquet from the characters of the first film, the mention of Annabelle and others. Ed and Lorraine will have to defend the young man, whom an unknown force forced to commit a terrible crime, because they cannot stand aside and allow a pure soul to be condemned to death. At the same time, the couple takes a mortal risk, because the same dark force can harm them.
The film looks in one go, despite the fact that it takes a long 2 hours for a horror. The narration is measured, smooth, allows you to enjoy the visuals and excellent camera work, periodically frightening. In the third part, more humor has become noticeable, light and unobtrusive, which makes everything that happens more real or something. We are able to believe that we are faced with real people, and not just another cardboard puppet from another scarecrow for teenagers.
In addition to the plot and the perfect picture, the main advantage of the film is our favorite heroes – Ed and Lorraine. If in the previous parts the emphasis was on families in trouble, then here the Warrens became the main characters. They are just lovely. There is an incredible chemistry between the pair, as if Wilson and Farmiga are really in love. It’s so strange, usually it’s boring to watch a married couple on the screen, it’s much more interesting the formation of love before the wedding, but here everything is different. For three films, they became almost family, which, reluctantly, you really worry about them. They complement each other perfectly. Lorraine is telepathic, and Ed is brute masculine strength and a cold mind. In the finale, I felt almost to the point of tears, I donât remember that recently some other film caused such emotions!
In short, everything that haters say is bullshit. People just do not understand what they are waiting for and out of habit criticize the continuation. And the film is superb and will definitely appeal to real fans like me. Yes, there are fewer boo-moments, but the style is completely preserved, and the plot and emotionality are even cooler than in the previous parts. I really want more films in this universe!
