I will say in advance that for a long time, namely from the release of the first part, this film was waiting. The rumor that the classic monsters: Motra, Rodan, King-Gidora finally hit the big screen really excited me. After the release of the second film of the monster universe with Kong, my confidence in the continuation was further strengthened. The Skull Island was in almost every way better than the 2014 Godzilla. It was immediately evident that the Vorners learn from mistakes. And now, after 5 years of expectations, the “Monster King did not disappoint. Overall impressions are very positive. Although there are some points that I did not like.
The action in the film is beyond praise. Even despite the fact that the battles take place either in snow, or in a hurricane, or in the rain, everything is perfectly visible, the movements are distinguishable, and the monsters inspire awe with their presence. Although, at some points, battles break off to focus on people. However, this did not spoil my impression.
The music in the film is also great! It was written by the composer of the new God of War, Bear Bear McCreary. In addition to the old compositions of Godzilla and Motra, there are also original themes of Hydora and Rodan, which are also written at the highest level and are ideal for monsters: choir and trumpets for Godzilla, flute for Motra, drums for Rodan, menacing chants for Hydora. And the new version of the song from the Blue Oyster Cult, playing during the credits, is also good.
The monsters themselves are perfect! Not only the quality of the graphics, but also how it is necessary to show these titans and in what way. Monsters, unlike the same “Pacific Frontier, “Rampage and “Meg, are felt by truly living and thinking creatures with their own character, which cannot but rejoice.
The plot is very simple and straightforward. But not terrible, as many say. Of course, there are many holes and miscalculations in it. But we didnÂ’t come to the cinema because of this, were we?
Characters are a huge breakthrough compared to the first part. Although they are not properly disclosed, they are charismatic and not forgotten. Each of the heroes brings something to the plot, develops it and is not a dummy. It is worth evaluating and acting. Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Charles Dance (aka Tywin Lannister), Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Zhang Ziyi (thereÂ’s one small detail that only Goji fans will notice), Thomas Middleditch, Bradley Whitford and others have gorgeously dealt with their task.
A lot of references to original films. And you need to watch the movie more than once (and the final credits) to notice them all. Of course, there is a scene after the credits.
The atmosphere of the film is simply mesmerizing and breathtaking. It was such an incredible stream of emotions that I want to forgive the picture of its flaws. But we must remain objective.
If the characters and plot were more thoughtful and spelled out, there would be a top score, but for now I can say with confidence that “Godzilla: The Monster King is the best movie in the Monsterverse universe!
