Film description

The four survivors of the Woodsboro massacre – the Carpenter sisters and twins Chad and Mindy – have moved to New York City, where they are trying to start their lives over. Sam sees a therapist and, to Tara’s displeasure, chafes at her every move, but as it soon becomes clear, for good reason. The masked maniac Ghostface starts killing again, and as Mindy suggests, neither new acquaintances nor old friends should be ruled out as suspects.

4k movies reviews
I think few would argue with the fact that the creation of sequels to successful films has long been a common solution in the practice of most modern movie studios, each of which wants to get in their piggy bank as many successful and long-running franchises. Especially if we talk about slasher films or horror movies in general. However, in most cases, the case ends up either passable or frankly weak movie. A pleasant and unexpected exception a year ago was the sequel/soft reboot of the franchise “Scream” directed by Matthew Bettinelli and Tyler Gillette, which was equally liked by both critics and viewers. In fact, asking for another continuation of the banquet. But did the authors of this tape managed to repeat their success and enter the same river twice? Definitely, yes.

The events of this tape develop not so much time after the events of the previous tape. Four survivors leave Woodsboro and try to start a new life in New York. However, the peaceful life of the heroes comes to an end, when the city again announces a killer in the mask of Ghostface, who begins to sow death in his path.

One of the main problems with most slasher and horror movie sequels is always both the unwillingness to move away from the usual formula, and the attempt to bring in very radical and experimental changes. When writing the script for last installment, the creative duo of James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick managed to find a middle ground. On the one hand, paying homage to their predecessors. On the other hand, to develop the ideas of the franchise in a modern way and with new characters. When creating the script of this tape, the authors of the picture clearly decided to continue to move in this direction.

As a result, we have a really interesting, clever and dashingly twisted script, which in the first minutes turns inside out the usual templates of the genre. Not only immediately revealing the identity of the killer, but also quite interestingly *spoiler* with him. Immediately making it clear that in this case the stakes have risen and absolutely no one is immune. Including the main characters. Which is competently played out through a really interesting detective line and the rapid development of events that overlap without respite. My wife and I guessed almost immediately who the killer/s were. However, the way the story develops not only didn’t discourage us from watching what was happening on screen, it enhanced it. Allowing us to watch with interest while waiting for the end credits. Including the way the story dashingly looped the events of the previous part, as well as the original quadralogy of the first four films. For once managing without Sydney and trying its best to shove her into the story.

We are all used to the fact that sequels are almost always worse than the original film. However, this movie can safely be called an exception to the rule. Directing duo Matthew Bettinelli and Tyler Gillette were able to adequately identify what shot in the previous part and strengthen these elements on the screen. As a result, structurally, “Scream 6” stands as close to its predecessor as possible. But it looks one or even several heads higher. Perfectly unfolding as an intriguing detective thriller with a powerful atmosphere of suspense and anxiety. Allowing you to feel in continuous anticipation of an attack. Also worthy of showing itself as a slasher. Favor according to all the rules of the genre, the murders became more, they became more elaborate and even more brutal. Pouring on the audience such a volume of blood, that involuntarily begins to seem, mol soon from the screen will begin to flow blood for real.

It is impossible not to mention the wonderful cast. Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding returned to their roles and perfectly showed themselves on the screen. Becoming the star of the successful series “Wansday” Jenna Ortega received much more screen time and took full advantage of this opportunity. Creating the most lively image of the four survivors from the previous installment. The return of Hayden Panettiere, who managed to present her heroine from an unexpected side, pleased me. One can argue about the necessity of Gale Weathers in the story. However, Courtney Cox perfectly coped with her role, and one scene of her heroine’s battle with the killer finally gives the actress and the heroine what they have been worthy of for so long – a great perfomance, which will definitely be remembered when you watch the tape for a long time. What is there, the entire cast showed themselves just great. We would like to note separately only Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori, who very interestingly “rocked” the picture at the beginning of the tape in the best traditions of Drew Barrymore.
