The hobbit Bilbo Baggins embarks on a grandiose campaign, the goal of which is to recapture the lost kingdom of the dwarfs Erebor from the dragon Smaug. Quite unexpectedly, the wizard Gandalf the Gray makes contact with the hobbit. So Bilbo finds himself and joins the company of thirteen dwarfs, led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take you through the Wild Land, treacherous lands inhabited by goblins and orcs, deadly wargs, giant spiders, skin-changing people and wizards.
And although their goal is in the East, among the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they will have to get out of the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo will meet a creature that will change his life forever – Gollum.
4k movies reviews
I am sitting at the station and waiting for the train that will take me from Helsinki back to St. Petersburg, in which people will not be able to see a small miracle (or not so small) called the Hobbit for a whole week. The decision to go to the premiere in another country was made a long time ago and was beyond doubt, and now – I do not regret it a bit! Not only was I lucky to see the film before all my friends, but I also saw The Hobbit in the original, which, no doubt, is only a plus for the film.)
I can not call myself an impartial spectator – I dearly love Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and all of Tolkien’s works, everything has been read more than once. The more pleasant it was to watch the film – you can feel the love with which Peter and the company transferred the book events to the screen. And for this love it is very easy to forgive the elements of fantasy – so organically and naturally they fit into the general style of the film and Tolkien’s storyline. I have never been jarred by such amateur performance. All the ‘additional’ lines were intertwined very organically and only added pluses to the film.
What can I say, this is a great movie! It’s so great to return to Middle-earth again, to its wonderful atmosphere, saturated with the already inseparable music of Howard Shore, again to see Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond, good old Gollum, some other characters whose names I will not disclose – well, why should I spoil your impressions ? … Bilbo and Frodo. And see so many new things! So many new places and so many new heroes.
Gnomes are wonderful – each in its own way, but almost all of them are remembered. To make-up artists – a deep bow, somehow you don’t even really think that these are, purely theoretically, ordinary people. Although no – they are gnomes, very real, moderately severe and bearded, such a glorious white-bearded Balin, such a little pretentious and very regal Thorin, funny Fili and Keely … Well, they are good, what else can I say? Excellent and very bookish gnomes, straight out of the pages of the book and went on their adventure. I would also like to mention Martin Freeman – to be honest, I did not think that he would be able to fit so well into the image of Bilbo. But he succeeded. He made a great hobbit – the whole first part of the film to watch his truly hobbit reactions to the ‘chaos’ happening around was a real pleasure.)
As for the whole ‘old guard’, I can say that Sir Ian McKelen does not have to worry about Gandalf losing to Dumbledore in the ‘battle of the wizards’ – in The Hobbit he is just an example of magic, to the tip of his wonderful hat 🙂 Andy Serkis, united with technology, surpassed themselves – Gollum in ‘The Hobbit’ is very real and extremely expressive. I’ve already written about music – it was difficult to write a more organic soundtrack. New and old musical themes are literally intertwined, and the atmosphere of Middle-earth is so keenly felt in the film, largely thanks to the work of Govrad Shor.
In the end … The result is an excellent film – less gloomy than The Lord of the Rings (although it must be admitted, darker and less childish than the book), and no matter what all critics wrote, it was not boring and not drawn out at all – almost three hours flew by. quickly, and by the end the pace increased to completely indecent speeds. Lovers of Tolkien will enjoy the film 100%. It is very funny to see in the film the moments already played in The Lord of the Rings – such a pleasant d?j? vu that we owe to Tolkien. Although, perhaps, someone like this ‘somewhere I have already seen it’ and will not really like it.
The most important thing is that after watching the film there is this amazing feeling that you are in a fairy tale for a while, and at this time you can become an enthusiastic child and just be grateful for it. I’m very grateful.) And I look forward to continuing the adventure. And the waiting period, which has just ended, starts again, yeah.
