One day, the fleet command received an alarming signal from the Yemeni capital of Sana’a: a crowd of local residents protesting against U.S. policy in the region had gathered in the square near the American embassy. The demonstrators are very aggressive and, quite possibly, will soon go to storm the building. Colonel Childers receives orders to land with his unit in Sanaa, take the embassy under guard and evacuate it if necessary. When Sergeant Krasiewicz fell beside Childers, bleeding to death, the colonel’s patience ran out and he gave the order to fire into the crowd. The bullets spared no one – neither the right, nor the guilty, nor the unarmed, nor children, nor women…. National Security Advisor Bill Sokal decided that the shootings of a peaceful demonstration (as it was presented in the press) should be the responsibility of the specific perpetrator of the crime – Colonel Childers, who made the wrong decision, which resulted in the deaths of innocent people. Determined to refute the unjust accusations, Childers asked his old friend Hayes Hodges to become his lawyer at the trial. And he could not refuse the man who many years ago saved him from death in the Vietnamese jungle.
