I was lucky enough to see this film at a special screening in Moscow a few days ago and I still remember with pleasure the jokes from this brilliant comedy. Stiller managed to create not just a summer adventure comedy, but exactly a cinematic product. It is that rare case where the director managed to kill two birds with one stone: create a comedy for both ordinary viewers and foodies.

The whole movie is one big Hollywood banter. There will be mockery of anything and everything, and Americans’ love of sequels and Oscar and Seann Penn, also a parody of war movies and much more. The average viewer will just chuckle, but the more attentive will definitely notice all these tricks. What can I say, Robert Downey Jr. with his amazing dialogues is a walking joke.

Here I come smoothly to the actors. We’re used to the fact that where Stiller is starring, there’s a lot of him, and not always justifiably so. But this is not the case, the whole movie is a benefit for 2 actors, namely just the brilliant Robert Downey Jr. and who would you think? Tom Cruise, yes yes Tom Cruise. I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t even know he was in the movie, but you will see Cruise in this movie like we have never seen him before and I doubt we ever will.

He played a small, bald, angry billionaire whose every dialogue is not without its sharp expressions and these dialogues just make you roll with fits of laughter. It seems like a small role, but what a significant and how it is played. In short, Tom Cruise is on fire. The rest of the actors also do not lag behind, as always inimitable Jack Black, and of course Stiller himself. Add to all this the hilarious little roles played by such top Hollywood actors as Matthew McConaughey, Toby Maguire, Nick Nolte.

As for the R rating, it is absolutely justified. The jokes are really sharp, with a fair amount of smut, but they cannot be called dirty. Stiller plays on the brink of a foul, but he does not go beyond certain limits. And, of course, there is a nice word to say about the action. The movie is full of colorful, large-scale explosions, and it is deliberately provocative and even unrealistic with a slight mockery.

And a special thank you to the localizers, they did their best. Perhaps this is the best dubbing from our distributors for a long time.

To sum up: We are facing the best comedy of this season, bright, colorful, with fantastic Downey Jr. and Cruise, insanely funny and what is the most important – not stupid. Honestly, Stiller the director I like a lot more than Stiller the actor. In general, bravo!!!
